Well, I have many nice things to say about the Drummer SS.

1. A very nice aftermarket part that is nice to look at. The attention to detail on the thing is great-- too bad it has to be subjected to road grime.

2. Kevin at Drummer is a truly caring person regarding his product and the people that buy it.

3. The sound from the thing is pretty incredible. I don't think anyone driving a car could say they didn't know you were there and hit you.

4. I am not sure if the sound fits the ULY 'persona', but it makes me want to buy an XB12S Long, just to have a bike that fits the sound.

The whole quality, and endorsement of Kevin is way cool to hear... And literally, since we're in the same part of the world, I'd love to actually get together for a ride and have a chance to hear the sound firsthand as well. Let us know if you think of it, if there is a noticeable difference in the amount of running your fans does the way some previous posts said it did with the regular Drummer.

Looks pretty cool around here this weekend, so after the chores are done, maybe we can try and get out before it gets hot.

I just talked to Kevin, he is finishing up a Drummer SS for me that he'll ship out this week. When I asked him if he could make it a little quieter he just kind of chuckled. But I had to ask. As much as I need my Uly to sound like a motorcycle instead of a clogged vacuum cleaner I am concerned my neighbors may not feel the same. I wish I could hear a Drummer in person, any one in the S.F bay area willing to do a ride by so I can hear this thing? Also Kevin feels I can run his can with the stock ecm and air box with no problems. Has anyone done that? Any thoughts on doing that? Whatever I decide I appreciate Kevin's attitude , not trying to push his product, just looking to help me do what will work for me.

Well, I have installed the SS Drummer with the stock ECM and filter and it works pretty darn good. Kevin probably chuckled because I was talking to him on Friday about the very same thing. The SS is loud. I don't mean like uncapped big block boat open wide loud, but louder than I expected or wanted. Enough that I may take it off and put the stock unit back on so that I can enjoy it more on the freeway. It sounds incredible in town --kind of 'hey this is a no *hit ride'. In fact my wife now calls the ULY 'Orange Thunder'. If I had a XB12Ss, I probably wouldn't care, but I'm not sure that 'thunder' mixes with the ULY. I need to ride it a little longer with the pipe on it to see -- or work on better earplugs.

The pics that I have taken of the install appear to be too big to post here.

Hi Wolffone2000,

Sorry but could not help but chime in, I ride our XB12S and my man rides our Uly.

For me, when we got Uly and put him next to our XB12S I felt Uly made Bindy (XB12S) look like a girl bike.

So I see Uly as the Thor and our XB12S is the lightening.

When Opto fitted the SS drummer to my bike she felt like a Thundering Thor and that did not suit me.

It was not the sound... hey in my opinion it's called mellow yellow, and it made me all warm and fuzzy inside.

My problem was the extra grunt, which Opto and Uly can handle.

I wish I had the courage to say to Opto put the SS back on my bike as I really miss the sound, but as I said I am just not ready for the extra grunt.... at this stage anyway.

Take Care, Be Safe Stay Upright!

Oops. Forgot to mention, the pain of having to admit that the SS was too much grunt for me, was eased by the fact I have an original Drummer on my bike.

I have now met "Orange Thunder" and can tell you that riding beside it from a few feet away with my stock Uly, there will be an exhaust upgrade in my very near future!!!

No worries that the neighbors will be offended, but it sounds like it should. Aside from long trip sound level (probably will start to wear earplugs), the biggest drawback I see will be that I will want to listen to the pipe to the point that the local law enforcement organizations might take offense at how much more "hooligan-ish" it will make my riding in general!

Wolffone, it was good to meet you!

Thanks

Probably a newbie question, but I couldnt find it in the KV:

when you install a drummer ( or any other aftermarket exhaust) what happens to the connection for the butterfly valve in the exhaust? Is the lack of that valve part of the requirement for the race ECM ??

Knowing that I have plans to modify my bike when it comes off warranty, that valve is the one possible stumbling block for me...

TIA
Chris

Just remove the cable from the Control unit and continue as if you were normal. Which you aren't cause you are a Buell rider. lol

Hi Thunderbox,

Sound is in the ear owner, but I would not say it was louder, just a deeper more throatier tone, sounded more manly, really suited the extra grunt attitude.

Well that's my discription, when I get home tonight I will get Opto to post and describe it to you in his words.

I was really peeved about having to tell Opto to take it off.

It looked cool, sounded cool and I felt so cool, however, pretending I had the experience to handle the Buell with the extra grunt would NOT have been cool.

Sorry I have made the page extra big, do not know how to shrink it.

Here is Bindy with the SS

The original Drummer, in comparison to the Buell race muffler, is nearly as loud. The SS is just as loud or a little bit louder than the race muffler but the quality of sound is extremely good with the SS, it is deeper and makes the engine sound very healthy while the race muffler seems to make barking/blatting sounds in comparison. The SS is strong in lower frequency content and to most next door neighbours that is not annoying, esp. compared to an inline 4 winding up.

Where would you all recommend purchasing the Drummer SS? What about the Chrome intake?
Has anyone mod a cool air intake for 2009 XB12Ss?
