Well, I took my Ulysses in for it's 5000 mile service today. While it was there, I had them check static timing and the deceleration shake from 50-40 mph. The timing was OK and so were the steering head bearings. They believe the shake (that is only noticeable with hands off the bars) is due to tire wear/cupping. I tend to agree with them. However, I was thinking that with the front end being so long legged, wouldn't a fork brace of some sort just above the small mud guard be a good idea? Anyone know of an aftermarket source for such a thing?

By the way, I rented an '05 VRod while for the day...what a pig. I don't get the whole feet forward, long rake, cruiser thing. Next time I'll rent the little 883R. It looks to be a little more fun.

I know what you mean. I was having my truck serviced so I rented a Corvette and it was a pig too. I don't get the whole two seat, sports car thing.

What is that you say?

Of course the Corvette is a pig. It has a laid back, long nose, sports car, thing.

Sarcasm aside, just because you don't "get" the style of a bike doesn't make it a pig.

No, the fact that it was slow, heavy and cumbersome does, though.

I too rented a V-Rod while on vacation and thought it had enough motor to do the cruiser thing fine, but cannot comprehend the layout working for anyone (the street rod fixes it with the more reward controls). Specifically, while reaching forward to the pegs is not a specific challenge, the fact that I cannot ride with my right foot placed in a ready to use position over the brake pedal was beyond my comprehension!

The foot reaches the peg fine, but without getting a different knee joint that was capable of articulating out and around the frame rail, I cannot ride it comfortably and feel like I am ready to dodge the clueless cagers that seem so prevalent here in Florida. I for one will not be buying one as the "muscle cruiser" that my wife would like to add to our garage.

Just my thoughts...

At the Sturgis rally this past summer, my wife demo'd the Night Rod (new V-rod bike) and of all the bikes she's ridden that bike was by far her favorite. She loved the smooth power delivery and riding position. It has the mid mount controls whereas the normal V-Rod has those ridiculous forward controls. I'm also partial to mid mount controls because they allow you to stand up off the seat when you feel like it. It also allows you to put the weight on your feet instead of just on your tail bone. The V-Rod family of bikes are way over priced.
