I stumbled upon the following info regarding EBR's activities in Europe earlier today. I'm kind of surprised that the info's a little over a month old and nobody has posted it yet.

Article 1:
EBR Motorcycles promotion tour Europe

Article 2 (in Dutch):
Ride and Read! EBR

EBR in Europe - WUNDERBAR!

Given I was in Holland that weekend in December......

One of the UK's largest shows is coming up soon in London. The EBR should be there if plans are not in place already to make it so. Especially if that bike is doing the rounds this side of the ocean. EBR nor Hero are on the list of confirmed exhibitors. Is this a missed opportunity?

Strange that the EBR has apparently been shown to the trade in the UK but no mention has been made in ANY of the trade publications or websites.

I follow and get all the UK motorcycle trade papers and e-mails and had no notice of this at all.

The largest UK motorcycle show was at the NEC in November and it wasn't there either. It will be interesting to see if EBR makes an appearance at the London show, and who's stand it appears on (It would be too late to book a stand purely for EBR I think).

I'd suggest it's more an unfortuitous timing issue . . . typically those shows require commitments something like 12 months in advance.

Although the product was well developed 12 months ago the marketing and EuroStaff has largely been accumulated over the past 90 days. Think of that as the "bad" news.

The countervailing "good" news is that EBR has acquired (a personal guess on my part, just reading the names of the players in the press releases) some of the best of the best in the European markets.

I'd be willing to wager you an order of Fish & Chips that by this time next year . . . it'll be an impressive presence.

Just a guess . . .

If it were not for the inaccuracy of this statement, I'd say there's no story to tell.

However, as this show hasn't been running that long, and it did become or replace the annual (and fantastic) Alexander Palace Motorcycle Road and Racing Show (or some such name), the title of the original event has me wondering if this is where your story emanates from. In which case it, no doubt knowing the way you tell them, will be interesting. So c'mon. Fess up man.

Actually it was the NEC (I think) show . . . . whatever the BIG motorcycle show was in London, England, Great Britain, United Kingdom at the time.

Harley-Davidson had no interest in polling Europeans interest in Buells so I got a guy from the old CompuServe GORIDE Motorcycle Forum (Denise, Chauly and I are the remnants remaining today) to attend the show and send me lots of data.

Those were good times.

The name of the show may have been inaccurate.

The facts are dead accurate.

The NEC on the outskirts of Birmingham is where the 'big' show is held every year Court.

Back in 1994 there can't have been anyone other than Warrs who brought any Buells into the UK, save for perhaps the odd individual person or shop. That changed in 1996/7 when several (I can name two) motorcycle dealers imported their own Buells, soon to be threatened by HD if they did not stop doing so!

Here's me which I think is January 1996 on a pilgrimage to Sparks of London to test their press hack.

Actually . . . they did more than bring in bikes. They kinda "stole" the name "Buell Motorcycle Company, Ltd".

Harley-Davidson sued them not over the importing, but the name. The deal was, ex-offico, any dealer that buys Buells or Buell parts from them gets cut off HD.

After that Warr's et al . . .pretty much handled the dirty work. It worked and fast.

I saved . . . call me a pack rat . . all the paperwork and news articles.

The first ones that I saw were at Just Harleys in their old Morpeth showroom. They imported them without the knowledge of H-D UK as far as I know. They also imported some fabulous Borile bikes from Italy and were told By H-D that they would lose their newly aqcuired franchise if they didn't stop immediately!
My brother in law bought one of the first S1 models that Just Harleys brought over, painted in Smokin Joes race paint and fitted with a full Supertrapp exhaust system. I think it was a 96 model but on UK 97 plates.

The first year that H-D put the Buell on the same stand at the NEC was the first year of the S1W White Lightning I think, which would have been 97/98.

The main topic of conversation around that bike at the show while I was there were the terrible quality of the frame welds, which was a real shame : (

Ah yes, as I remember now. That is an accurate statement.

The first one I saw was that one I rode, at Sparks. They were importing Titan's at that time, and Corvette's. I know York Suzuki imported some Buells in, though I personally only knew of one. Warr's had brought some in years earlier of course.

I spent many a phone call to US dealers when I tried to buy an S1 before they were officially imported here. My big and tough mate was going to come with me to New York where we would strip the bike and place it in one of those elongated forever extending zipper bags, and he carry the engine as hand luggage! In those days, pre 9/11, anything was possible on a plane. I didn't have to bother in the end. The price dropped from anywhere near £13000 grey import, to £7300 when HD got behind selling in the UK.

I bought my S1W from Just Harleys when they'd moved from their Morpeth addy into Newcastle. Dale was a great bloke.
