Chris Allendorf, Oceanside, CA
2004 XB12R Lightning

About 5 months ago I was out for a ride when a Silverado 1500 pulled immediately in front of me off a left hand turn and I was forced to slow down and stop, but ended up in a nose wheely for approximately 45'-50'before having to stop immediately. This catapulted me over the bars and into the tail gate of the Silverado. I hit the truck upside down and tucked into a cannonball with my knees to my chest. I don't remember what exactly happened after that, next thing I knew, I was still in the cannonball position, but laying on my side and about 20' away from the truck up against the k-rail. Long story short, I fractured 5 thorasaic vertebrae, 3 ribs, and my pelvis. I was extremely lucky on this one as I needed no surgeries and that was the extent of my injuries. Considering I was traveling at about 30 mph when I hit the truck and at about 55 mph when I began the nose wheely, I was more then lucky. Strangest thing about the entire accident was that, while in my nose wheely, I could hear my road angel bell dingling and nothing else. All back ground noise was gone and I could hear was my guardian bell/road angel bell. I am amazed at the Guardian Bell thing, but even more amazed that the only damage to my bike was a broken right mirror, broken and missing right front and rear turn signals, cracked windshield, and cracked fairing subframe along with some scratches to the plastics along the right side as well. I was the only thing that hit the truck, the bike did not hit the truck. 5 days later I was home from the hospital. 2 months later, I was back on my bike. }}}
