"any chance you could leave earlier than the 2nd?

Not likely, with all the rides I'll be participating in this year, it's a stretch to make this one.

Yes, "I" could, but I'm not going alone, My better half is also riding with me, and she is not too happy about doing 1200 mile days on the back of her Buell.

but if I plan on riding with you, I had better plan on THREE days. knowing how you like to stop and take pictures, etc. It could even take FOUR days! I don't think we have that much time...

Bad Billy,
Slabbing it not my idea of fun either - if you haveta be on the back that's what airports are for. : )

denise,
she would never fly or ride on the back as long as one of her bikes are running. : )
She's riding her Harley to New England with me in June, and she'll be on her Buell for the BratPac...

You should ride, that's what bikes are for, riding. Although they DO look good sitting in the garage, they look much better rolling down the road.

sorry, my bad - sounded like your better half was going to be stuck on the back. usually hold my opinions on what someone should do to myself, not knowing their circumstances - my SV will not be slabbing it anywhere - these days I am too picky about where my "time off" is spent.

D,
yea, no way my better half will ride on the back, LOL.
I'm not fond of super-slabbing myself, but will do it to get somewhere quickly.
As you well know, I'm not opposed to hauling the bike close to where I'm riding in an effort to save the tires.
But I'll still tease someone for doing it. ;)

Ebear, we might have too much fun. I've worn out the good ones like "Aqualung" and "Minstrel in the Gallery", "Songs from the Wood" and the one with the newspaper cover that I can never remember the name which probably explains the content found when I recently opened that cover... uh hum. The songs you remember from the times you forget, eh?

Dang Ebear.. those weren't even floor seats! I remember griping about spending $45 for two of us to go see Foghat/Nugent.. That of course included dinner, T-shirts, parking and 'additional peripherals'..

I know we had a great time.. I'm just not so sure on the exact events of the night..

Un-Hijacking the thread.. When you guys get up to Front Royal, does anyone know where you'll be yet? I'm gonna take that Friday off and come out and show ya a local road or two.. and just trying to figure where a good starting point will be.. (I plan ahead if possible.. what can I say?)

Blublak, the date we'll be there is September the 14th but lodging is undetermined at this point. I was hoping for some local input before making that decision. Got any suggestions? It looks like we could have at least 20-25 people and possibly more as this develops.

Re-hijacking the thread... remind me to tell you (stolen from Court) about our experience (not safe for public consumption) with the guys from Foghat on their tour bus.

Ebear, "Thick as a Brick" is the title I can never remember. ;)

Hmmmmm.. Let's see.. there are several nice little joints in Front Royal. Budget Inn and the like.. then there are a few that are .. uh.. cheaper? Depends on what you guys are interested in as far as places to stay go.

So far, I was thinking of a few roads.. Uh.. how many miles do you guys think you might feel like doing?

If you're talking about in Front Royal. Define 'cheap' .. As for creepy, well, I'm sure we can find you somewhere they won't be playing 'Deliverance' next door to your room.

Cheap as in "I want a reasonable place to stay, but I am not trying to impress anyone".

The Deliverance folks are fine, I get along fine with good old boys. Druggies and prostitutes are the types I am trying to avoid, and it would be nice to not have to worry too much about which bits of the bike will be missing in the morning.

Budget Inns are probably fine... I just don't want to be spending $150 per night for ammenities I could care less about, and have to figure out how this trip will fit in the budget before I start the spousal lobbying...

Hang on... now I am confused. I thought this was going to be in and around Franklin NC? The only Front Royal I can find is way over in VA...

I have heard good things about the Microtels... and there is one in Franklin.

Bill; look at the tentative plan in the very first post of the thread;

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=37&post=487101#POST48 7101

Starting point is Franklin, NC on Sept. 4th. After a few days in that area the route heads north along the BRP ending up in Front Royal around Sept. 15th.

It's a traveling show : )

As for me going ... the institute will be hosting a 3 day conference starting Sept. 15th. Not good ...

Now I get it.

If I can do it, it would probably be only the first few days, so I would be leaning towards the Franklin end of the ride anyway.

Bill, Henrik is correct. It is a traveling show. Our first three nights will be in Franklin, NC. I will have lodging info for that section posted next weekend. We usually stay at a local dive called the Franklin Motel but there are other motels in town that I'll check with before posting the info.

Henrik, Give me the number to the institute and I'll fix their ass. Any chance you can make part of the trip? Hell, I don't even wanna go if you're not going. : (

Jim; I just heard about the meeting and will try to manage so I can meet up with you guys in Franklin and head back home the following weekend. It'll take some finessing, so give me a bit of time to work something out.

Bill, I'm gonna hold you to that : )

On hotels and such in Front Royal. I was looking the other day (should have checked rates for the dates you're coming up.. oops) Just off the Skyline Drive, as you enter the city, there is a Quality Inn and a place called Scottish Inn. There is also a Super 8 just down from those. These are actually in town and not far from gas, food etc.

I'll check again next time I'm out that way and get some prices. I'll also look and see what else is there, as there are a bunch of little mom and pop types still in operation. I think most of the chain places run in the $60 range, but don't take my word for it until after it's been checked.

Embrace creepiness, brother! think of the personal growth opportunities! (or have I been working for a California-based company too long?)

Henrik -- ya gotta let the folks in the office know what's what -- work/life balance issues are a prime contributor to porr efficiency and throughput -- in order to increase your organizational leverage, gain traction to move the enterprise forward, and create a paradigm shift, it's important for you to attend

think of the danger to colleagues if folks were to post stories of daring-do and pics illustrating big fun while you were at work -- could get ugly for em, yes?
