Blake, if'n Fearless hears of this little escapade it'll be my HANGIE that gets removed!!!

140 AT NIGHT??? geez, man! well, like i said, speed is a devious drug

V2win, thanks for checking in, sorry to hear the bike-build is going so slow. gotta agree, there's nothing like big pubi....oops, cubic inches

it was upper-70's here today, probably 80 down in Bakersfield. was out on the scoot this evening when a very full moon emerged from behind the Sierras and it's warm reflection shimmered across Lake Isabella like an old best-friend.

ride to ride,

FB: On a busa, in 3rd gear, 140 is there so quickly it's truly frightening. The dang thing is so smooth and quiet it's very deceiving; I had no idea I was moving so darn fast. The Busa was cool, but Paul's S3 was even more fun for me. He has it set up really well, antler pegs and all. :D

Howdy Ferris!!Dont believe we've met yet but "stories of your derangement have preceeded you!"I would like to be "Led" by you on a Kern run since that is some of my favorite Cal riding in the state! We've been going to the Kern river area for the last 20 years or so to hang out around the river and do our own Rapids shooting when the river drops. But the true fun is when we can bring both bikes and boats! Our favorite spot is the very last site before "Roads End"next time your there check it out! They walk right into that spot to stock the river so we get first shot after the Squaw fish! But the best part is the ride over the hill to California Hot Springs!!!Ive had some great(and scary)times up there and would like nothing better than to go thru there with the likes of you!Ill dig up some pic's of the river so our Buell Brethren can see a most exciting river in them parts!Quite deadly too if your not careful. But the real reason Im typing this too long message is cause Im looking for a roomate on the Brag ride. I need a person to share my room at the Bakersfield , Fresno , Taho and Eureka spots.I dont smoke cigarets but do party all night and can drink like a fish in the company of like souls.Im holding back from turning in Brag Roomate sheet untill I hear from the Badweb.Email me at eobear99@aol.com. See Ya!

Blake, i've talked on BADWEB before about riding Ricker's 'Busa thru Porterville several years ago. i was truly surprised how light and nimble it seemed; i was expecting something a little more truck-like.

and hot-damn, how that bitch would fly!!! as memory serves, i, too, got it up to about 140 (awful frikkin' quickly), on the short section of freeway that runs thru P'ville.

like you, i didn't realize i was going that fast 'til i looked down at the "SH*T, I'm-Going-Straight-To-Jail!" gauge.

when i gave Jeremy back his bike (i really, REALLY didn't want to...), he had a very all-knowing smile on his face. "Now do you know why I bought it?", he asked.

yep, bud, i most surely do :)

ride to adrenalize,

hey Ebear, it's a pleasure to meet you :)

anytime you wanna hook up and pound some pavement, just let me know!

it's cool that you mention Road's End, it's one of my favorite rides when i only have a couple hours to motor.

my daughter Brynn likes to come along, and we'll sit out on their shaded patio woofing down ice-cream bars and watching the motorcycles go by.

ever done Portuguese Pass? i don't think too many riders know about it, it's not very well-marked where it cuts off from Mountain 99.

runs basically parallel to, and south of, the California Hot Springs road, and comes out at Posey.

very cool, very remote, very refreshing :)

hey man, ANY time you wanna get together up here for a two-wheeled strike force, just lemme know. i work Monday thru Saturday, so it'd need to be on a Sunday, k?

say, can you break away for the BRAG ride a day early and join me 'n FMJ 'n Racerboy 'n V2win for the CAL GP?

thanks again for the shout out, looking forward to our first ride :)

if'n anyone is interested go here for a glimpse of what the upper Kern River looks like during periods of high-flow (earning a well-deserved Class V-rating).

let the "Bomb's Away" graphic load, then hit the "play" icon.

Mountain 99 begins in Kernville and hugs the Kern River for mile after glorious mile :)

bomb's away, indeed!

Court, i finally worked up the gumption, one night during a phone call with Jeremy, to tell him what he really is: "Jeremy," i said, "YOU are a bike whore!!!"

"Yes, ma'am, I am!" said he with a chuckle, not the least bit apologetic :)

a couple of the coolest bikes i've ever flogged ('Busa and TL1000) belonged to our dear Mr. Ricker, and if you hadda introduced him to me just a skoshey bit sooner, i, too, mighta had a crack at his Gamma! from the stories i've heard, the thing had a throttle like a nuclearized toggle switch--sound about right?

glad to see him with another Buell in his stable; someday i'm thinkin' he'll wish he'd hung on to his S2 :(

one summer day, several years ago (i think we were doing recon for Blue Groove/Northwest), me 'n Ricker and Jon Carlson from Latus Motors rode up on the south side of Mount St. Helens and had a good look around.

i was on the BLURR, i THINK Jeremy was on his TL (he's such a scooter-slut it's hard to remember what he was riding at any given time :-), and Carlson was on his b-b-b-bad Bimota.

talk about a rip fest :)

hi Denise! :)

hmmmm, am thinking REAL hard about the Porterville Rally, have ridden with that gang on several occasions, love the roads, of course, and think the world of CBR-Lorraine and VFR-Steve :)

are you going? checked the registered riders on their website just now, didn't see your name. have always kinda tagged along with Ricker, not sure if he's coming down from Oregon this year or not.

have we met? please excuse if we have and i've forgotten (i'm usually pretty good with names). if you get a chance to rocket down this way from Sac i'd be way buzzed to show you Portuguese Pass.

i more or less stumbled onto it last year by chance, from the west end near Posey. along this section it's little more than a paved trail climbng relentlessly thru giant trees and boulders, not even wide enough to warrant the county putting down a centerline...and it keeps getting better :)

towards the east end, near M99, there's a breathtakingly gorgeous meadow where i stopped and recharged my karma for awhile. spent probably a half hour here, soaking up the green energy, and the only vehicles to pass by during that time were a couple of trailbikes.

anyway.......thanks for the hello, would love to ride with a fellow Interceptor pilot if you find yourself down this way.

hey, i'll extend the same invite to you as i did Ebear: wanna join us for the CAL GP? :)

ride to make new friends,
Ferris

hi Denise, the CAL GP is short (kinda sorta :-) for the California Grand Pre-ride--if you go back thru the archives on this page you'll see the genesis of this perfectly lame yet exceedingly brilliant excuse to flog a motorcycle :)

the basic deal is i'm gonna meet Racerboy and V2win, who will be inboard from St. Louis for the CA BRAG deal, in or near Death Valley on Friday morning 5/17, then spend the next day and a half showing them the best the southern Sierras have to offer, including a photo op-stop at Willow Springs Raceway on the way south to Rim of the World Highway and Big Bear.

if things go well, i'll get them to San Diego early afternoon on Sat 5/18, in plenty of time to relax, register, mingle and party.

anyone scanning this thread that wants to get in on the GP you're way welcome, just give a shout out.

Denise, might see you at Porterville, and if not would still like to get together for some riding sometime. you can catch me via e-mail at PACBOG@aol.com :)

best,
Ferris

Sparky, yesterday was for you! (well, honestly, it was for ME, but i WAS thinking about you...:-) decided to rip a new one on our friend Granite Road, kind of in your honor, and had the time of my life.

quite often when i'm riding (actually almost ALL the time) i'm formulating words in my head, trying to decide how i would describe my impressions or emotions at that moment.

yesterday, i decided at last, would prove to be an exercise in futility, as my limited abilities to communicate were extremely outdone by the spectacle of the ride.

dude, you GOTTA make plans to come up here, before the heat (it was 90+ in Bakersfield yesterday) turns the hills brown. Granite Road and it's offspring (the Woody-Granite Road, as just one example) are nothing sort of brilliant, PERFECT pavement, uniformly clean, easy to read and sticky, everything is cool, green and lush, and i can't even begin to describe the displays of wildflowers.

in fact (WARNING: BOLD STATEMENT AHEAD!), if Granite had an ocean view, i'd rank it right up there with Highway 1 from Monterey to Hearst Castle. (and as a bonus, Granite doesn't have the all the frikkin' motorhomes :-)

yep, pretty awesome day :)

ride and ride s'more,
Ferris

scummy, gloomy skies here today, and windier than the stuff that comes outta Blake's butt ("Boo-hoo!" says all the frustrated right-coasters), plus another battery has gone toes-up in the VFR (), but will still be out this weekend doing recon for the GP and CA BRAG Tour.

Leslie has asked that i fine-tune day three's route, from Bakersfield to Fresno via King's Canyon and Sequoia (i can now confirm that the official "long" route that day blazes along Lake Isabella's northern shoreline--yippee!), and i'll be out in the Toy Tacoma at oh-dark-thirty Sunday morning doing just that.

RBoy and V2win, how's thing's lookin' on your end? FMJ, still a go? Sparky, what's your current status? EBear? Andy, great to hear from you, hope you can make it. VFRD, see you soon........ :)

My cylinders and pistons were shipped 2 days ago. Lower end is just about done. the engine will be put together this week. A little tuning and dyno and the bike will be ready to come home. The updated isolators and new bearings for the swingarm and steering head is a go. New front rotor is waiting for the bike to come back home so it can go on. The primer is on the body. Paint should be complete in about a week. New tires will be on by May 1. John will be on road by May 14. All is falling into place.

G-Spot? oh, come now! :)

great to hear your enthusiasm, as it's feeding mine!

went upriver this afternoon, double-checking Leslie's directions and mileage notations. made it about six miles further than last trip, before running into some pretty serious snow.

stuck the Tacoma into 4 LO and could only get in it about 10 feet, dragging both diff's as i went--yikes!

passed a Forest Ranger on the way back down, thought i might get a chewin' for having driven around the road-closed sign above Johnsondale, but all was cool.

LOTS of rafters in the river today, as the temps are climbing and the snow-melt is feeding the Kern. should be rippin' by the time you guys get here.

was so amped by the scenery up here today, imagining looking at it for the first time thru a non-local's eyes. am way envious of those Huelligans lucky enough to do the entire CA BRAG Tour, this truly will be a ride to remember. props to Les and everyone else directly involved at BRAG for having the balls to pull this deal off.

FMJ, maybe seeing (and hearing) your renude S2 will shift my karma enough to enable seriouly pondering getting the BLURR back on the road--i sure do miss it.

Ebear, i replied to your cool e-mail last week, then all went silent--you OK?

Sparky? Sparrrrrrrrrrrrrrkyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy................

ride to learn,

time to move this topic back to the top of the page...

RBoy and V2Win, how 'bout a status report--things still looking good on your end? FMJ, you? EBear, thanks for the e-mail the other day, hope your plans allow you to join us. Sparky?

cruised up to Kernville this afternoon, checked out the goings on for this weekend's Teva Kern Whitewater Festival, all the kayakers practicing in the Kern rapids, banging off the rocks and pulling giant wheelies, reminded me of BattleTrax, only wetter!

had the good fortune to spend last weekend in Santa Barbara, riding with Buell/Ducati Bob and the rest of the Santa Barbara Ducati Riders Club. toured the Guy Webster Motorcycle Museum in Ojai on Sunday, veddy, veddy cool.

as a bonus, got to ride Hwy 33 on the way back (which, i believe, is part of Day Two's CA BRAG route). it's a little dirty in spots, but plenty of sportbike-worthy pavement just waiting for you boys to torment and terrorize.

has cooled off a bunch here the past week, daytime temps have plummeted into the 50's, overnights into the low 30's-high 20's. the Great Divide Highway is still snow-closed, and the Sierras have gotten s'more snow the past few days.

might be touch 'n go whether the Mighty 190 (the GDH's nickname) will be open in time, and i'm putting together an alternate Day Three "Long Route" for Leslie, just in case.

less than a month now, dudes! :)

ride to lean,
Ferris

All is looking good. I have the body painted. Brought it home last night. The engine should be back into the chassis by Sat. Racerboy had a broken bolt for the front mount but has had it replaced. All is a go with him.
We will leave May 14, meeting up with you at a place and time yet to be determined.

FB,

I'm back from 3 wks of out of state family duties. Sorry I didn't have time to post that I was leaving.

Wife & I still doing the ride, probably 2 up on the T-bolt. If it were just me riding, I'd be on the S1 and meeting you guys on Friday for some extended riding. Most likely though we'll ride down to SD on Sat to pick up our ride packets. Al Lighton offered to put up some Badwebbers for Sat night - we might take him up on the offer, Al?

So our plans are we'll probably catch up with you guys at HHOH early Sunday unless we see you sooner.

FMJ, what day and where are you planning on joining the GP? i may be heading out from the lake to start this gig on Thursday afternoon...

V2Win, good to hear from you. i haven't decided where to meet you guys yet, might motor up to Lone Pine and spend the night Thursday night, then hump into Death Valley Friday morning to escort you guys out.

before my first visit to DV, i never imagined it'd be sportbike-friendly (and the valley itself isn't, really). BUT, 190-west out of DV is the bomb, and i may just decide to romp on out of there with you on Friday :)

Sparky, also good to hear from you again, was hoping you were alright. was thinking of you last Sunday on Hwy. 33--did i see the turn-off to the Songdog Ranch along here? (i ask, um, because Bob and i were doing the ton-plus for mile after mile, and my attention was pretty much forward-focused) :)

hey, how 'bout you and the missus meet up with us at Willow on Saturday morning? if all goes well, we should be there about 9:30 or 10. then, you guys could ride with us on the rest of the GP?

ok, Racerboy and V2Win, here's a little something i've been holding back: remember in earlier posts how we've talked about taking some touristy-type pix at Willow, just to say ya been there?

well.............just so happens the WSMC Toyota Cup Grand Prix is going on at Willow that weekend, and the place is gonna be packed with motorcycles. YEE HAW!

Buell/Ducati Bob from Santa Barbara is gonna be there on Saturday, mercilessly flogging his Buell S1-BBWL (um, that would be a bitchin' black White Lightning, in case you needed some help...), and has invited us to hang around and rub knee pucks for awhile during our visit. pretty cool, eh? :)

ride to fly,
