I just happened to be snooping around Ducati's home page and ran across the following bit of text:

The 'dark' version demonstrates how the Monster silhouette remains totally uncompromised by centralising the bike's volumes and masses.

It's located here: http://www.ducati.com/en/bikes/my2008/FamilyPage.j html;jsessionid=KNHRKV3HG3JTMCRNCB2SFFAKFUIHUIV4;?fami ly=Monster

If you click on new color schemes it will bring up the window with it.

I guess imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.}

A question / comment for the folks who run buell.com - why do I keep getting booted out of the owners area every time I open a popup, such as an event details window? Just about every time I do something, I have to re-enter my login information....

Just a comment. Thanks for having the owners' section for us, and I'm looking forward to some more details about the Homecoming schedule!

This fairing lower should be standard. As sweet as the 1125R is, that motor deserves to be covered up!

Nah! Like my wife, the Buell looks good when it isn't so covered up. Just my opinion, though. Finally got to see the 1125R in person, and she's a Beauty!

For reasons which shall remain unexplained,I reluctantly let my 05 XB12scg go in the summer of 2006. She was an awesome machine and there was a bit of a hole in my life until 27 January 2008 when I was able to pick up a new 07 XB12S. How very good it is to be back on a Buell again. So my thanks go out to Erik and all of the good people and engineers in East Troy.
Thanks to all of you for building me another Buell and thanks to the Badwebbers who kept the fires burning and carried the flag.

I want to bitch.
Last fall, we bought an '08 Ss for my wife. We took out a loan from H-D Motor Credit, and we agreed that we would pay it off quickly. Between Tax refunds, side jobs and the sale of my wife's Moto Guzzi, we figured that we'd have the loan paid off within a year. Everything was going as planned and Life was Good.
Then Buell released the XT. The bike that I've been yelling for. And it looks absolutely irresistible in red. After some discussion,my wife and I agreed that we'd stick to our plan, and as soon as her bike was paid off, I'd get an XT.
Yesterday, I read, here on Badweb, that Buell is offering 5.99% interest. I don't know how long I can resist an offer like that. Do you realize that you're threatening my Domestic Tranquility? Now I have to look seriously at my finances and see just how much I can juggle things around.
If I show up at Homecoming on a Red XT, it will be all your fault.

You are not alone . . . I'm holding out for a custom color . . not because I want it but because it "creates" an excuse to wait.

: )

The XT is a gifted piece of work.

It looks like my post was deleted? Why?

I was trying to be professional and sincere about my request to contact Buell about my problems and if I wanted to write a hit piece online about quality issues I could have done that very well.

I believe my experience is (should be) very interesting to the suits at Buell including Erik.

If that company wants to be around in 10 years and maintain the small little piece of the highly competitive market for badass street bikes then a serious look at not producing products that are of bad quality and frustrating first time bikers would (should) be priority #1

I paid a lot of money for this bike (understandably the cheapest one they make) but still a large amount of cash new from the dealer and my experience has not been good and I want to make sure Buell and Erik knows that why my next bike could very well be an import.

I would appreciate an explanation of why my post was deleted and I would like to know if that sort of censoring is common on this board? (so I can pack up leave)

THANKS!

No posts appear to have been deleted? Have you contacted Buell? What did they say? What did your dealer say? There is an entire area here dedicated to BUELL CUSTOMER SERVICE with their phone number listed. It's also in your owner's manual.

By the way . . . folks are ALWAYS aware your next bike could be an import. It's just me, based on doing this for 20 years, but I'd suggest avoiding the veiled threat.

If you have problems there is are means and methods for handling those. Threaten them and they'll likely tell you not to let the door hit you in the ass.

I spent two years taking phone calls from Buell customers happy and irate and have helped many over the years. My advise has always been that courtesy and manners, even when I am big time pissed off, are the best way to go.

On many times I've bent the rules to help a polite person and never hesitated to hang up on anybody (dealer or customer) who was rude or impolite.

Hi Court,

Thanks for the response, I'm sorry about the tone of my message but I believe my original very nice message may have been deleted.

I haven't talked to my dealer or Buell yet but I'll take your advice when I talk to them. I want Buell to do well, I want to believe that we can have a badass american sportbike. I hope they can do something to turn me around when I go to buy the next one.

Thanks,

Sorry I didn't see your post before I replied.. I guess I'm having problems posting to the site. I am a little on edge and unhappy with my bike right now. I just wanted to know that my concerns will be heard. I'll try to the phone number in the book this week.

>>>>I want Buell to do well

Good news!

Buell is excelling, doing something that John Britten with his millions and Excelsior-Henderson nor Indian, with a quarter BILLION and some great engineers, could not . . . designing, making and selling motorcycles AT A PROFIT.

Posting an irate post on an internet site without so much as having had one word of communication with the company, you surely understand, certainly takes any perceived steam out of whatever your argument may be.

I've been solving Buell problems for the better part of 20 years and have never seen one that could not be resolved.

That's great to know. It's a good thing that neither of my posts were irate.

I do have a 3 page letter than I would like read by anyone at Buell that explains in detail the issues, the first year experience and how after the last malfunction I'm disappointed as I'm loosing faith that my bike will be worth fixing out of pocket when the warranty is up in addition my concern for safety when I'm on the road. Without sharing everything I really believe I have a valid concern as the letter explains it perfectly.

I didn't come here to slam Buell online at this point in my life I realize it's in badtaste and nothing will be solved by it.

I also wanted to share with them that my dealership has done a pretty amazing job fixing the issues and making me feel welcome when I'm there.

Thanks,
T

I have enough people pissed off that at this point waving one more letter in front of someone won't hurt.

To be truthful . . the folks at Buell listen much more than many think, know or would believe.

I have an interesting story and good news for those that are interested.

I spent the weekend stewing about my motorcycle having developed a 2 inch vertical crack in the engine case on the left side. On top the previous issues I had completely lost faith that my bike was made with any quality in mind.

It's a little difficult to explain but stick with me. My immediate thought was that it was some type of stress fracture due to bad fabrication or materials. I dropped it off on my lunch break and showed it to the guys and they were puzzled and said they would order a new engine case and it would be a few weeks for the parts and labor.

I've been in and out of the service department enough times to get recognized. (over real problems)

I got a call before I left work that it's ready to go.. There was no crack! Apparently road tar can sling into some interesting patterns that appear to be a crack when placed against a cast aluminum engine case.. =)

Despite being a little embarrassed I'm happy now. I have the phone number and letter in hand if there are any more major problems this summer but for now I'm happy.

The guys at Indianapolis South Side Harley have been great to work with and no charge for this inspection. I just wanted to share that with everyone.

Hi,
Looks like I can't start a new thread here... o well.

For the Factory (and marketing)....

Please update the Erik Buell wikipedia page. I'd guess it only covers 10% of Erik's accomplishments/inventions.

I rode my 2002 M2 (Orange/Grey) to work today.. and one of my colleague's (SW engineer) complimented me on how cool it looked and never heard of Buell.

So I send him the wiki link assuming that it had all sorts of info on Erik's innovated inventions.. especially the XB data... no data on the XB platform. Nothing about what he did for HD....

I believe sales would improve if the Buell marketing team were to update the Erik Buell wiki page with all the cool innovative data and history background motorcyclists love to read before they buy there bike.

Just a though...

For Buell motor company and HOG road side assistance. First thing is I love my ULY very much and I love Buell motorcycles so much I have been a dedicated rider on Buells since 2000. I am a Rider's Edge instructor and was headed down to Memphis, Tenn. to the CIW Rider's Edge HQ had for us. My Uly broke down on the western Kentucky parkway on May 6th. Everything just died insturement
cluster, Odometer, and then the engine gave out. I totally miss BRAG because of the free one year tow it allows to a Buell dealership. I tried 2 road side assistance programs HOG and the AMA Mo-Tow HOG wanted to tow me to a Harley-Davidson Dealership nearby and told me the closest Buell servicing dealership was in Clarksville Tenn. and wanted to charge me over $700.00 because they miss caculated my location to Clarksville, Tenn. I was 92 miles away. So I went with MO-TOW and wound up paying $336.00. So Poor service from the HOG roadside assistance I'll never call them again. Now for the ULY side of the story; I just got my Uly when it was towed it only had 3,075 miles on it. The Buell tech at Appleton Harley-Davidson and Buell knew what was going on with my bike right away. It was a connector, the smaller one, from the engine to the battery it was arching and the load from running the bike drained my battery. The Buell Tech said he had seen this as a common problem with the Ulys. How come Buell Motorcycle company hasn't put a recall on this? I'm going to get the part replaced and I want reimbursment from Buell Motorcycle company because my bike is under warranty. I looked on the Buell web site and did not find a place to bring this issue to. Or person to contact. Appleton HD The Buell Tech is Luis Odio he is the best he did repair it temporarily so I could ride the Uly down to Memphis and back home to Baltimore, Md. If they couldn't fix it the GM Mary and the Owner of Appleton was going to give me a bike to ride to the CIW. I am so glad I stuck to my guns and told the roadside assistance I wanted to go to Appleton's in Tenn. My Uly is brand new I did add the heated grips and the Buell GPS unit to it. I was only using the GPS. I was doing about 300 miles a day on it and the Uly had only 3,075 miles on it when it broke down. I am going to get the part replaced this Saturday I am taking it to the shop. I want to know how I can get my $336.00 back. Can anyone help? Kathy

For the Buell elves;

I have a 2008 XB12R with a Special Ops pipe installed.

My questions are;

1) Do I need to have my ECM re-mapped?

2) If I do an airbox mod to allow more airflow, do I need to have my ECM re-mapped?

Thanks!!
