Downtown H-D/Buell hosted today's foggy morning event. I brought my Guzzi friend for a taste of v-twins oriented the "other" way. Myself, I had never ridden an XB before. Lots of bikes shown, chops included, but only a handful of Buellers. Free BBQ and an appearance by the SeaGals (Seahawks) cheerleaders were also on tap.

Our time was limited (families at home waiting for us) so we only rode twice; once each on a 12S & 12R. There were 2 CityX's available and a 9R, but we both wanted to try 12's. The Lightnings felt much more comfortable. I guess we're getting old because folding ourselves up on an R didn't feel good, and we're not portly guys. At least with an S you can lean up or settle back at will. Had a hard time glancing at the low gauges on the S, though. "Gauges?! We don' need no stinkin' gauges!"

The power was smoooooth compared to my tuber and shifting gears was a much more positive experience. The fan was not that big a deal; only when we were all lined up at stop light did it sound like a chorus, and how often in real life will THAT ever happen. Put a loud pipe on and you'll barely hear it, I'll bet.

Unfortunately, our group rides were right-turn-only affairs with no twisties. Taking a couple street turns at a good lean and opening up the throttle were the only thrills available today.

Thanks to Buell for the opportunity to ride & learn! Someday I hope to take a 12S out for an second date/extended ride.

Forgot to add that I saw a neat CityX plastic decor (sorry, no pics). One of the demo riders owned a 9S that she bought CityX plastic for. She applied a checkerboard pattern of adhesive mirror mylar squares to the undersides of the flyscreen and airbox. The effect was impressive. All kinds of patterns/pictures could be applied the same way.

Hey, I saw that checkboard square pattern at the demo today, but I had to fill out an app form quick to make it on the last ride of the day, so I couldn't get a picture of it before she left.

Those Pirelli Skorpian tires on the SX are really nice! The 207's are a bad memory.
