Tonight I was riding home, and I went to take off from a stop light and the bike was cuttin in and out, I got on the throttle more, got the R's up, and got it home. I shut the bike off, started it back up, with no problems, a few times. So I got out a volage tester and the batter was putting out 12.39, Started the bike it was putting out around 13.20. according to the book, the battery is at 50% of its life cycle. The bike has 9.5k Miles on it, and the battery is 3 years old this month. Can the battery affect the way the bike runs? You would think once the bike is started it using the power generated from the engine. Recent mods/issues. Full race kit, ECM, gutted Airbox, Header, and Pipe. Recent issues Bike cutting out at 5.7rpms under load (Belived to be a lose sparkplug wire, ran great till today) Backfiring when down shifting. Found to be missing front header bolts. Replaced bolts bike ran great, but bolts keep getting lose! Tonight, Engine was cutting out as I was pulling away from a stoplight, got the R's up, and everything was fine after that! I would like to say thanks for all the help I have received on these boards! You guys have been great!

Mine was like that until I tightened up the cables. Damm things vibrated off, thats one of the bad things of riding a high performance paint shaker....things tend to loosen. |

I though my bike was just being cold blooded. Ran just like you described. New battery, no problems. |

3 years old ain't bad, 50% of service life or not . . . .. . I think it's time for a visit from the battery man . . . . |

Mine ran like crap with a low battery. After I charged the battery, it ran fine. The low battery was enough to start the bike. |

When I was debugging electrical problems, there was a point where a discharged battery would cause the bike to run badly, but it was WAY below the point where the battery would no longer turn over the engine. That is, the battery was too weak to turn over the engine, but was plenty strong to keep the bike running well. If you did indeed stop and restart the bike right after it was running badly, then I don't know if I would rush out and replace the battery right away. I had an intermittant (for a while) stator failure that kept me plenty confused. It eventually totally fused and let out the magic smoke, and was then easy to track down. With regards to the header stud, do you have the upgraded front exhaust mount? You don't want to mess with that thing repeatedly loosening, once you loose the first one, the second stud can easily shear. |

I put a new battery in today, Bike is running great and idling better. It seemed to have a little miss when I would cruise in third gear at 40mph (The speed limit of a highly patroled street near my house), but since I put the battery in, it cruises nice! on the header bolts, they are nuts (My mistake)! Sorry for the confusion. I went out and romped on it, then tighted them down good. I will know in a few days if I have to check again! Thanks for the help!

I had a problem with an exhaust nut letting go. I replaced it with a crowned nut (works like and aircraft nut, but all metal). It works great. |
