Considering purchasing the Buell mesh jacket for summer riding, the one listed on the site for around $150. Is anyone riding with this jacket? Is so, your input would be greatly appreciated! Does it flow enough air, have enough safety built into it, high quality fit & feel, comfortable, and are you happy & satisfied with your purchase? Thanks!

I'm lookin at getting one too. Having seen them at the dealer, I can say they're well made with armor in the elbows and shoulders. Has a pocket in the back for a back protector.

Having worn mesh jackets it the past, I can tell ya it's as close to no jacket as you can get air flow wise. Have yet to crash one yet.

I do... love it.

when you're sitting at a light it can get a little steamy but after you start moving its like riding with just a t-shirt. I would recomend it.

oh, and its really well made as well.

great jacket, my wife got me one for christmas...absolutely love it!

it is made by Joe Rocket, kinda funny my local yamakawazuki dealer has the rocket version for $189, but my buell version was $150.

the only thing i was a little disappointed in was that it has no back armor of any kind, but it has a slot for it. so i bought this( http://www.newenough.com/armor/back_protector_inst alls_in_apparel/first_gear/temperfoam_back_pad.htm l )and with a slight trim i was in business.

I've had one for about 6 months and love it. I think it's a very good deal for what you get. Plenty of paneling, and the windbreaker underneath works very well when it gets a little nippy.

It's a great jacket. We got one in March, ordered back armour thru Harley for $25 in April. It seems safer than the previous Vanson mesh jacket I had. I wear an aerostitch wind resistant jersey underneath, and I'm good to go for the "winterish" riding we do in FL (hey it gets a little chilly in the lowland areas at 6:00 am in April!!! Miss those days a whole lot right bout now)

Good quality jacket but wish it had more retroreflective material on it. However, $7 at Joann Fabrics for sew on retro stuff, and problem solved!!

Any one been a crash test dummy in one of the new ones yet(Joe Rocket)?

Wolfridgerider wasn't too impressed with his Vanson/Buell mesh one from about three years ago. If I recall the zipper exploded upon impact at Road America. Made some ugly raspberries where it should not have. My Buell jacket(non mesh can't remember its name right now) held up well through the same crash with not a scuff or scratch on my skin. It didn't stop the ribs from cracking and breaking, but, oh well. I have been wearing it for the past couple years since.

I crashed last year and was wearing a (non-Buell) Joe Rocket mesh. Aside from all my breaks and fractures (no jacket or pant would have helped those), I was totally rash-free. Jacket held up fine, and aside from the fact they had to cut it off me before loading me on the helicopter...I could keep wearing it if I wanted to. It held up very well. Impact is impact though, and I still had a torn rotator cuff, collapsed lung, couple broken ribs and a few cracked vertebrae...but again, nothing this side of a cage would have helped that in my situation.

As to the new Buell mesh - I wear one currently and love it. It's well made, the zippers are strong and don't skip or jump, the sleeve gather tabs are nice (no flapping), and airflow is awesome. I actually feel *cooler* wearing this than I would if I was just in a tee, the mesh breaks up the airflow and creates just enough turbulence on the skin, it gives a cooling effect. My only wish is that it had more reflective stuff (piping, logos, whatever) on it - but I'm a visibility freak. That, and I wish it had something other than an HD logo on the sleeve tabs : (

Ratbuell,

I knew you were in bad shape but did not expect all those injuries you just mentioned...I was going to visit you when I heard about your accident form John, but was not able to cause a few days later, my Dad passed away. That was indeed a bad year for all of us! I hope your injuries are healing Joe!

Just got one a few months ago.

I will agree with the others in that I really like it.

Haven't crash tested it yet and hope not to.

Lonewolf...you've seen me at work, no worse for wear LOL. They're taking 2 screws out of my left knee in a week and a half (YAY! no more muscles rolling and popping across screw heads!!) but other than that, and some swelling on the right leg after a day on my feet....life is goin' on : ) All the upper body stuff took care of itself thru PT and time; the only surgeries required were on my legs. But yeah, it was a laundry list...

You guess wrong. I have two different Joe Rocket pants (new mesh and older balistic) and a textile jacket. They all zip together. The Buell mesh jacket does not. The good news is that, if you still have the other half from the pants you own (or soon buy) a competent seamstress can swap that one for the one in the jacket.
