I am packing the last few things to go on a 2 week long trip with me and the Buell. Im going to visit family and old friends and take every crooked back road on the way there.

Hopefully I will get lost a few times and make some more friends on the way.

I have been wanting to do this for a loooong time.

I'll chat w/ yall when I get back.

The wife and I are leaving in the morning for 10 days 2-up on the Uly. Going north to visit her side of the family in NY, final destination Lake Placid. Should be 2,500 miles or more by the time it's all over.

Have fun on your solo trip! If you ask me, that really IS what it's all about.

Barker - hav fun, man. I've been trying to get out on a trip like that myself...just can't find that much time in one shot it seems.

Acav - Some GREAT roads coming up from GA to NY. I made the opposite trip down (I'm about 1.5 hours south of Lake Placid).

Everyone ride safe!

Man, sounds like a lot of fun. I'd love to do that, but my wife would kill me if I burned all my vacation without her (she refuses to ride).

Swords - kind of my pickle. I could do it, but it would mean nothing else for the year.

I'll be doing the Hokey Pokey this week as well. (It is what it's all about, right?). My wife and I two up on the Uly from Maine to South Carolina and back over 10 days....with a stop at Parris Island to watch my son minted as an U.S. Marine. I'm pretty sure it doesn't get much better.

Don't know which direction your headed Barker, but Acav80 - you're going the wrong way this time of the year! Come to the North East in late summer/fall sometime if you can. Absolute best time/place to be on the planet, especially on a Uly!

Oh, and may you all have a safe and enjoyable ride - wherever you may be going!

Cyclone8u- Did you find out if they'll let you ride on base? Hopefully so. Please post a ride report for those of us who can't hit the road right now to enjoy.

If you want to peruse the MCO, just google MCO5100.19e. Under Highway Safety Guidelines: Requirements and Procedures, Chapter C(PPE), Section 1, Bulletin's A-E

(1) The following PPE is mandatory for all persons operating
or riding as a passenger on a motorcycle on DoD installations, and
for all military personnel operating or riding on a motorcycle off
installations, on and off road, in uniform or civilian clothes:
(a) A properly fastened (under the chin) protective helmet
which meets the standards of the Snell Memorial Foundation (SNELL),
the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), or the Department
of Transportation (DOT).
(b) Impact or shatter resistant goggles or full-face
shield attached to the helmet. A windshield, eyeglasses or fairing
alone is not considered proper eye protection.
(c) A brightly colored outer upper garment during the day
and a reflective upper garment at night or a commercially available
mesh/fabric vest that is bright yellow, international orange or lime
green with two 1 1/2" to 2" wide vertical or horizontal retroeflective
strips front and back. The vest is authorized for wear by
Marines in uniform, and should be removed as soon as the Marine gets
off the motorcycle. The garment must not be covered or concealed,
such as by a backpack.
(d) Hard-soled shoes with heels. The use of leather boots
or over the ankle shoes is encouraged.
(e) Properly worn long-sleeved shirt or jacket, longegged
trousers and full-fingered gloves or mittens.

There is obviously more but that should get you a start.
