While everyone is praying for Jeff Ruggles could you include my son as well? Matt is having surgery tomorrow to re-attach the flexor tendon in his right thumb. He cut it and some nerves opening a can last week. This is a pretty big deal. If it doesn't heal right he won't be able to grasp anything with his right hand any more. To make matters worse while driving to Matt’s aid, my older son had a car accident. He missed a turn, hit a tree and totaled out my pickup truck. Even with a seat belt and an air bag, James hit the windshield. He needed 6 stitches to the forehead and 9 staples to the scalp. James will be fine but I'm really worried about Matt and his thumb. All prays, good thoughts, religious chants or animal sacrifices are appreciated. Thanks in advance guys. | ||

Yeesh! Hate to hear of all that steaming pile falling youn's way. Be sure of your doc and his game plan, and find a peaceful place for your family and yourself. Get some cocoa butter for your other kid's stitches, cheep at Dollar General. For future reference, and not to make fun of the situation, next time you go shopping look for the "One Touch" can opener. Takes 2 AA batteries, looks strangely like it's humpin the can top whilst working, actually quite fun to use. Might be a good gift to your son, specially if he has a good sense of humor. Me and my GF use one regularly- makes a mundane task kinda entertaining, after all. Godspeed to youn's, except for opening tin cans...  | ||

Thanks everyone. Matt's surgery is scheduled for 10:30 this morning and should take about 4 hours. I'll post the out come after I get him home and comfortable. Thanks again people, this means a great deal to both Matt and I. (Message edited by Zane on April 07, 2009) | ||

Well, Matt is out of surgery and home. The news is all good. They found his tendon up high in his hand so the incision did not have to be extended much at all, only about two inches. The doctor was able to attach the tendon and repair the nerve. He's hurting a lot still but 1000mg of Vicodin should fix that. Thanks to everyone for all the prays and good vibes. Zane- Glad things are going well. My mother-in-law had a similar accident with her hand ~40 years ago. She somehow broke a glass and sliced two tendons in her hand. They had to go up in her arm and find the loose ends, and then reconnect them by trial and error. She said they got them backwards the first time (index and middle fingers backwards IIRC). They told her to wiggle her index finger and the middle finger moved. They swapped the tendons and everything was fine. Weird, but I guess that's the only way to do it. | ||

Matt had a pretty tough night last night. He is still having some pain. I've been trying to keep his mind off of it as best I can. James got the stitches and staples out this morning. So we're one step closer to "normal". | ||
