Howdy,
I was thinking about converting my 2000 X1 into a track bike. Right now I’m running the race chip, K&N filter and Dunlop 208 RR. Otherwise stock bike.
I was wondering if anyone has an info on clip-ons and rear sets. What brand did you buy? Ease of install? Do you like them? Any other mods done? Any thoughts on exhaust? Anyone have dyno numbers for stock versus Buell race can versus D&D? I tried searching through the dyno graphs in the vault and didn’t find it.
Thanks

Art,
I have both rearsest and clip-ons from Crossroads. I love both of them and they were very easy to install. I also have the D&D full race exhaust and while I don't have hard numbers I can tell you it is awesome!! Combined with your race ECM and a good air clener set-up like a Forcewinder and you will be set!!

Please elaborate a little more on the clip-on handlebars. Do they hit the tank cover? will the stock controls still work? What options are there for rise, wrist angle and general fit. I really want clip-ons to lower my body. What are the best ones to install and who sells them. Thanks for any info!!!!

Ypu wont find any clipons that work for the X1. I tried some off a ZX7..same size tubes & they hit the tank.

The crossroads clear & all the stock controls are used. I did have to drill 1 small locating hole in the left bar so I could situate the conrols just where I wanted them..very ez tho.

No options as to rise or angle, etc. They fit great, look great. The riding position is fantastic for track days or B-trax, but for everyday use my old body cant take it. Really stretches you out & I am over 6' with long ass gorilla arms.

Heres what the Crossroads look like on my X1. I also have the CRG bar end mirrors. Pricey but worth it.

And a side shot so you can see the relationship of the bars to the rest of the bike

Hey! I like it! I was very comfy on my CBR954 and a lot of people can't ride rice rockets long distances. Dynarider, have you ever ridden a jap bike like my 954? Is the positioning similar if you have? Is there anybody that can match the blue on the frame? I would like to powder coat the aluminum tail to match the frame. If anybody has alternate suggestions please post them. Thanks much!!!

Thanks for the replies. However I was hoping for a true clip-ons. I am looking to keeping it cheap and easy to repair incase of a crash. What about the clip-on that American Sport Bike sell? Anyone have an info on those?
Thanks again

Dyna, that is one nice looking bike. I now see a little clearer of your view. Is it up and running now? If so will you bring it with you to the ridge run?
Teofan, I had a lot of links to powder coaters before my hard drive bit the big one.
But, all the links I got, I got from google. Also, if I'm not mistaken there are some out there that do pretty good color matching.

Teo, yes I have ridden "jap" bikes as well as owned them. I had a Katana 600 & a CBR600F2.

The riding position of the X1 with the crossroads bars reminds me most of an R1, thats what the seating position now feels like.

Glitch..nope bike hasnt run since sept of 2002. Ask Buell & Ukes why. I wont ruin this topic with that crap now.

Art, the ones asb sells hit the tank. The only way they dont is if you have them straight out like a set of drag bars. There is a set of risers out there..Blake has them on his M2 that were rumored to fit an X1, but I have never heard of anyone having any luck with finding them.

For what it's worth to you. I used to have the Crossroads bars on my X1 like Dan has. I now have a set of Eurocomponents bars that I like much better. They are angle slightly more inward and seem easier on my wrists. I have Crossroads rearsets which also which I love.

The Cyclecat risers, the "S" style I believe *might* work. Pricy but nice design. If they don't know for sure that it'll fit, they may be able to lend you a set of shop risers and bars so you can try it out.

They only make clamps up to 53mm, but informed me that they can machine those out to 54 mm.

Glitch...Even while experiencing the initial set of faux pas with his X1, Dyna was probably one of Buell's strongest supporters. Nuff said.

Dyna...Nice to see you passed on the opportunity to vent. Have to admit you really poured the love and money into your X1 only to have the dream go down the drain.

I personally am thankful for the BWB Knowledge Vault and the X1 Files for alerting me to potential problem areas so that I can R&R the causes before I experience the failure. Yeah, it costs me, but I love my X1 enough that it is worth it.

It's a racebike right? Take the tank cover off and leave it home. The plastic tank is paintable if you're not looking for pretty. (I don't think I'd sand it much) You'll be able to get lower and it won't get ruined in a wreck. Then Wood craft clipons will work fine with the extra clearance. You may have to put a steering stop to reduce turn angle to keep the starter button from hitting. I used a piece of headlight bracket for a stop. Replacement parts will be anywhere you go.

Fnrage, Is there any chance that you could post a picture of what the bars look like installed on your bike. The Eurocomponents web page really doesn't have a good picture of what the bars look like on a bike. Very much appreciated, thanks!!

You cant see all the little things I did to the bike in those pics, Banke tail, exhaust, fly screen, etc. Had lots of plans too. Wanted to have a number of parts polished, but shit happens.

Unfortunately Buell doesnt remember me as a huge supporter of theirs, only remembers what happened after the 3rd meltdown. Oh well.

Henrik, those cycle cat deals look pretty nice. Very pricey as you mentioned. Very small selection tho. I looked to see if they made a set for the Kawi ZX7 because those bikes use the same 54mm setup as the X1 does. But all they list are rather new bikes like the ZX9 & 12.

Don't know if anyone has tried them but Airtech has supposedly solved the clip=ons too close to the tank problem. Try the following site.
