"This year, taxpayers will receive an Economic Stimulus Payment.
This is a very exciting new program that I will explain using the Q
and A format:

Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?
A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

Q. Where will the government get this money?
A. From taxpayers.

Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
A. Only a smidgen.

Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a
high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China ?
A. Shut up.

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the US economy
by spending your stimulus check wisely:

If you spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China.
If you spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs.
If you purchase a computer it will go to India.
If you purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras,
and Guatemala (unless you buy organic).
If you buy a car it will go to Japan.
If you purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan.

And none of it will help the American economy.

We need to keep that money here in America. You can keep the money
in America by spending it at yard sales, going to a baseball game,
or spend it on prostitutes, beer and wine (domestic ONLY), or
tattoos, since those are the only businesses still in the US.

But what if you go to your local mom and pop store?

What if you invest your money in an American Start Up company?

What if you use your money to invent something to better our country economy?

What if you use that money to take a class to move up a notch in your company then...

Alas, even most of those are not options....

As a New Yorker I am already subsidizing 2 new stadiums....

Wine is what my kids do and I can't afford Sam Adams 24 7 which is the only domestic mass produced beer left that does not taste like pig sweat.........

Everybody's using cheaper imported ink....

Why buy used imported crap from someone's yard sale when I can get it in a reusable shopping bag for pennies more and be "greeted" when I walk in the door?....

So that leaves Hookers who already have received their Ahem... STD's

(That still was some funny stuff there though)

All? None? Hmmm, the money will go to pay local business property taxes, utility bills for the businesses, salaries/wages/benefits of the local employees, incomes and costs associated with the delivery peoples, only a portion of it will leave the country if any of it does.

But still, if I get anything, I'll be hitting the thrift shops and garage sales, or a thrifty garage sale. Unless the day job goes bad in which case any money I get will go to cover housing, food, utilities, transportation needs for job searching, and so forth.

Wait, was this supposed to be funny? Sorry, ignore everything I just typed, it feels like a Thursday for some reason (and Fridays can be a bad thing around here lately). Plus it's wintering outside and the gray syndrome is kicking in.

And I've never been to Disneyworld, isn't that that place over in France?

I thought the last sentence of this was interesting.

Bill

From Yahoo News:

"The bulk of the (stimulus) bill's spending is aimed at bringing aging infrastructure into the 21st century to preserve and improve the country's long-term competitiveness in the global economy, creating millions of jobs in the process.

The sweep of projects is broad, from roads, rail, bridges, airports and dams to military construction and housing, among others.

The House-approved plan's "Buy American" provision generally prohibits the purchase of foreign iron and steel for any infrastructure project in the bill."

While i have NO idea if this is true,if so,it's about time somebody in Washington grew a set.

I just do NOT care what the top feeding economists preach,if we buy more than we sell,we cannot balance our collective checkbook.

I'm damn tired of reading "Made in China" everywhere i go.It's soooooo wrong

I AM enjoying my Chilean blueberries every morning lately

I think it may be about MODERATION.

Just make sure that your tattoo artist uses the money on domestic prostitutes and she in turn spends it on American whiskey.

It'll only support the Belgians.

Everyone sick of buying things, only to find out they are manufactured in another country? Even if it has an "American" company's name on it (Like Ford)...
Rally your representatives around the Fair Tax Act.
Because until the US Government stops punishing businesses here in the states, businesses will keep going over seas for production. And I for one don't blame them one bit. Business owners didn't get into business so they could loose money.
And at the present state of things, if you are manufacturing here in the states, you cannot compete with foriegn manufacturing, plain and simple fact.

This is true. Working for a state agency that receives much of its funding from the feds, I have had much first-hand experience with this. Basically what it boils down to is that X% or $Y (I don't remember specifics off the top of my head but I know it is a very small amount), whichever is less, of foreign steel is allowed to be used in federally funded public works projects. If that amount is exceeded, we, as an agency, stand to lose part of or all federal funding.

All that said, it is a pain in the backside to collect and confirm all of the paperwork that goes along with it. However, kudos to the legislators for keeping our business local!!!

>>>>>If that amount is exceeded, we, as an agency, stand to lose part of or all federal funding.

Hahahahaha. . . while that is technically true, like most things out of Washington, there are enough loopholes (similar to the ones that allowed Wall Street folks to take $18,000,000,000 of your money "loaned" as bonuses) to make it look like Swiss cheese.

Many projects currently underway require "Jumbos" (a piece of steel that weight >1,000#/Ft) and they are made in one place in the world . . .

From a project I am currently involved with . . .

quote:

Jumbo steel columns, required for the large spans of the project, were imported from Arcelor, Belgium as they are one of the world's only plants that build columns of the required sizes.

The "Stimulus" package will stimulate nothing but future "entitlement" voters. Obama has no more control over Wall Street than you or I do and, as I'd indicated months prior to the election when they were sable rattling about how they'd "tax the rich" and "redistribute" funds. . . well, Wall Street was ready for them, many firms having paid the next year or two salaries as a deferred package in TY2008 . . .

I'm sure he was a great neighborhood organizer.

Let's hope the "Gang" in the Senate can hold this thing up. Looks like there are enough to hold it up in filibuster at least. There aren't enough to have a cloture vote. There are some Blue Dog Democrats potentially jumping ship.

I wonder where Lieberman will fall. I'd bet he will vote with the Republicans.
