Very Awesome. All of the packs that I have been involved with have also had a "Dad's Race" in which the dad's would build their own cars, and have races. There are always some pretty tricked out cars in it.

Kewl! At my mom's somewhere my old 7th grade racer still stands. "The Banshee" was winning all its heats until the one time the CO2 cartridge on it didn't get a good punch- I was pretty peeved.

Gravity races seem to be more fair- less human error involved, just run 'em down a straight string. Lots of fun at any rate.

Is it cheating? Absolutely.

Was it worth it? Absolutely!

When I was a cub scout, my Dad 'helped' me make my pinewood derby car. It was far and a way the best looking one and go disqualified but I didn't care. I was so proud of it.

Am I the only one that fantasized about a small compressed air cylinder, a small electrical actuator, bluetooth, and a tiny remote in my pocket?

I've done some Balsa wood racers before.

Balsa seems more like styrofoam than wood.. a major PITA to sand smooth for aerodynamics, but there is no weight limit to racing. Just make the car as light as possible without breaking during a race. Then you stick a CO2 cartridge in the back of the car and watch it go : p

Us kids would always pick on the ones who were obviously "helped" by their parents. WE knew who did what.

I used to love the Space Derby - but I'm an airhead at heart.
