Will post a link to all my pics later. Got home about 7 hours ago. Ran into badweb member Kinger on our RV ride back from the race. Believe his stator took a dump. We helped him get his bike to a gas station that was closed but at least dry.
Weather and all, it was a great time. I think it will be a hit at Indy for a long time to come.

Damnit.

Were you hanging out at the Buell tent before the race at all?

If so, you saw me ride up on my Orange/Grey Cyclone.

Only people I saw was 04Buell and JohnnyVince.

I got some of the best parking, right behind the Buell Demo truck about 50ft from the track, and sheltered from all the wind.

On the track parking, about 8 bikes all fell over, but there was a Buell X1 from Wisconsin still standing (wind blew them all over).

We were by the Buell tent Friday and Saturday for a while. Our seats were across from the podium and pits, so we stayed there for the races. At least we ran into Colin Edwards and got his autograph before everyone else noticed him and mobbed him.
We know Randy, the suspension tech for the Redbull Rookie Cup AMA riders, so he took my Son, Coolice and I into their pit area, closed to the general public. I must say, it was frickin' sweet. Those bikes are for sale. 40K each.. That's insane.
Met 2 brothers from Indonesia. Hung with them most of the weekend. Befriended the usher in our section. Retired guy. TONS of questions about bike racing. Seemed really impressed with the whole thing.
Must say, if you were THINKING about going, but didn't? Put it on your list of things to do. Great time. I know we're all planning to go again next year.

Anyone else see the Yamaha tent after the wind got ahold of it?

Oh, and the one Ducati tent?

Had a great time at the Race! Even the wind and the rain didn't bother us much, but the Top section Bleacher seat that flew off and hit some Spectators about 50 feet from us did scare us a bit! I can't wait until next year, although I do hope we have a little more Sunshine!

I was hoping for a better fan turnout, but it's impossible to tell how big a factor the weather was in that. According to the Indianapolis Star, attendance was just over 91,000.

We know there will be another GP here next year, but I hope the attendance improves so as to keep it here permanently. I sure don't want it to go the way of the F1 race at Indy.

Easy, the Buell tent wasn't far from that, and yes, it was bad. Poles fell on some new bikes I guess.

They had pulled them out and to the right behind whatever that tall black thing in your photo.

iNdY report #35 - US MotoGP

Friday - weather sucks. i apologize to the bike, load the pontiac - tarp, beer, tent, beer, clothes, beer, coolers, extra beer money. sucky weather confirmed just south of milwaukee, which makes leaving the bike home a little easier. a little. road construction all the way thru chicago, which also sucks. and also makes me feel a little better. rain clears up in indiana, wife starts sucking on the beer. put up tent, but not the tarp...sucky neighbor tore down the fence, nothing to tie the tarp to. greet friends and locals, then watch my wife destroy a scalper. rain friday night, but not enough that it sucks.

Saturday - overcast, but warm. wake and bake, send michelle shopping for souvees and donuts for breakfast. miss my bike, pout for awhile. i watched practice from the infield. michelle raids the Buell tent looking for swag, but all the stickers were swiped by local H-D/Buell dealer in Vendor's Marketplace. go back to Vendor's Marketplace, get freebie sticker, and buy a Buell hat. we eat "traditional" pork tenderloin so big we have to split it. rider's cup race is a good race, lots of passing right in front of us. go to krogers, ribeyes and taters for dinner, boxed lunch for race day. However, Kenny and Jim are too trashed to assemble the grill, so i drive to Hardee's, instead. after 13 beers, (her count) michelle declares Red Burrito a "10+"

go down to Georgetown for big "night before the race" party in the street. WTF -no party! in may, there are 125,000 drunks in the road, in sept, there's maybe 40. quote>"what a bunch of pussies"<from local liquor store owner. i explain to him that a big chunk of these guys rode thru major thunderstorms ON A MOTORCYCLE, and that the average I.Q. has doubled since the na$car race. these are hard-core motorcycle racing fans here to see a race, not bud-drinking party hounds here to see (and be) a wreck. he has no argument. to make nice, we buy an extra case of beer, which the wife promptly begins to imbibe.

Raceday - a strange, glowing ball of light appears in the sky. locals warn us of the impending rain and wind. i decide to break camp, and we load the pontiac, stone the locals, head to the track. i wish Jim was singing, miss Mr. Carnigie even more...it just doesn't seem right without him. 125 race is great, but flagged early. 250 race post-poned. the track dryers come out, and get more applause than the winner of the 125 race.

>>nostalgic flashback...in 2000, if the words "Juan Pablo Montoya" were broadcast on the P.A, the crowd went nuts, most of all, the really hot colombian chicks.<< this year, it's the words "Nicky Hayden", but no hot colombian babes.

the GP race was something to see...not a single crash, despite wet, wetter, and worse track conditions. the winds were so bad, the flags on the south grandstands were coming apart, and i saw something (maybe the bleacher seat?) go flying by a few sections over. i can't imagine the balls it would take to pass another rider out there. Hayden made a race of it, but Rossi's got him covered. when the winds get going, the race was flagged early. the 250 race is canceled. too bad we didn't get to see more racing, but the racing we did see was pretty good, so i guess that's a 50/50 kinda thing. anybody that was there for the 400 this year, or that BS with Michelin at the F-1 race a few years back, knows what i mean...

the drive home sucked, but at least i wasn't on the bike. i guess all the rain that didn't hit iNdY hit chicago, as there are detours and roads closed all over the place. there's so much standing water, it looks like wisconsin, minus the hills. at this point, i'm glad the bike is safe at home. the rain finally lets up about 1/2 hour before we get home, around 1:30 AM

all in all, another great weekend in iNdY...just like the previous 34.

Well, I'll give a recap of my, day journey.

Sunday, 0640 Mishawaka, IN:
Wake up after 3 hours of sleep (best friends wedding night before), start packing, recovering, sitting on the toilet because the urge is there just had a little trouble.

Saddlebags packed with everything inside packed in garbage bags to keep dry (it's already raining). Tank bag packed with everything in ziploc baggies, cell phone, chatterbox, directions, wallet, etc...

0840:
Stand up for 1 mile to gas station, grab a full tank, quart of oil in case I need it on the way.
Grab a Red Bull and a glazed doughnut, eat and drink quickly, gotta me my buddies and I'm off to a late start!

0855:
Stand up from station and on the highway. It's raining fairly well. I drive about 5 miles to hit US 31, getting off the US 20 Bypass onto US 31 was slippery, tires did not want to grip, pucker factor of 8.5.

The ride down US 31 was, uneventful, ran about 80mph, faster in some areas. Saw only one LEO.

Stopped about 75 miles down, fill up and grab a Red Bull, at a BP just South of Grissom AFB.

Continuing down 31, the most boring ride, ever, I hit 465W to go to Michigan St, where the hotel is to pick up my tickets/parking pass.

Grab them, take a leak, hop back on 465 heading the other way, to go to the other side of town to meet my buddies.

1100:
Get to my buddies, unload my stuff, change into dry clothes (not going to matter in a couple hours), load my saddlebags with beer since we'll be there all day, and hop back on the bikes to go to breakfast/lunch at Boston Market.

1230:
Eat, then hop on and ride to the track. Two buddies wore shorts...5-10 minutes into the ride, heading back down 465W, it pours on us.

Thankfully we wore our lids, and I wore my jacket and jeans. My one buddy only had a tshirt and shorts on. He was a tad wet.

1315:
Arrive at the track, and they park on the track, I peruse my way up to the infield on the bike.
Find 04Buell, JohnnyVince...Mike from Bloomington Buell/HD...Talk with them then run off.

It's raining still at this point, we are trying to figure out what to do...Rain finally stops, they bring out the dryers.

We get up on the fence on the infield in Turn 2 and watch the big boys race. AWESOME!Then we hop over the bridge and go to the first turn after the back straightaway, this is when the rain starts again, and the wind blows like hell. Red Flag, shit...Rossi's leading! No!

Bikes finally off the track, they call it, winds tear through the track. First up, Yamaha Tent. I watch it rip itself apart and flap in the high winds, it's so windy it's damn near flapping over the track!

Well, we stand under another tent, it starts letting up, and we walk to the track to where my buddies parked. Bikes have blown over because of the wind (see above picture), the front row started because a Yamaha Fiat was lowered, and the jack ass forgot to chop his kickstand.

Now, I'm trying to figure out how the hell to get to my bike. I hop on the back of my buddies R6 and we try riding the way I rode it. Negative. I have to walk it. Damn.

They ride out to the Shell on 16th street. My gate takes me out onto a road that "T's" with 16th. Damn, stopped traffic for 45minutes.

Meet back up with them, ride back, change into somewhat wet gear, and change of clothes.

1930-2000:
Stands up, 5 of us head out (I'm the only Buell). Stop in Carmel, fill up and we agree, no stopping until we hit South Bend, IN (Home).

Well, It's raining...AGAIN, and we're crankin...80-90 the whole way...My buddy on a Gixxer 1000 has his left pant leg on his cheap ass rainsuit blow up like a balloon and rip off. He stops, big ordeal as he was in the back, I just barely saw him flashing his lights.

Make it back just shy of 2200. Good time.

Not a bad day, no one down, for me, it was 325 miles, several hours at the track, all pretty much wet. Thankfully my riding gear and $25 Walmart Rainsuit kept me dry!

Didn't run into any fellow Bad Web folks except Smoke my 3% brother of the cult, lol!

Had three guys staying in our RV/Camping area and only one that knew what the Bad Web was, they all had tubers I was surprised.

Anyway had a blast...didn't like getting rained on and the hard winds didn't help but I'd do it all over again.

Got the hook up with a Premium Paddock Pass guest of Colin Edwards. THANKS TIM!

Got several good pics and autographs of Nicky,Colin,Hopper,West,Toseland, and a few others.

I'll try to post up some pics later.

Thanks again Smoke, you the man

"Didn't run into any fellow Bad Web folks"

Same here. I yelled up into the Buell bleachers Sat morning asking if there were any badwebers here and most of the people looked at me as if I was nuts or something.

I was looking forward to meeting some of you but I guess that it will have to wait until next time.

The factory reps were a pleasure to talk with and they really seemed to want to be there.(pride) Even the Harley guys working in the Buell tent surprised me.

It kinda sucked walking around wearing a trash bag and dodging incoming debris. But it was still a good time over all and can only get better in the future.

I yelled out too, that's funny. I was Rv'ing at the corner of 16th and Olin street close to the bridge with red painted stripes. Saw lots of Buell's going by, should have made a sign. We had a hoot of a time cooking out, drinking and play'n the guitar. Well not me play'n, I can only play Guitar Hero lol! I was even able to talked some folks into play'n the spoons, thats right spoons....it was funny as sh_t.

I bumped into a couple from Chicago in the pits on Thursday, Phillyblast at the fairgrounds, someone from Kokomo in the stands but didn't get his name, saw a couple of others wearing the Buell colors but didn't engage. Also saw a couple of Buells in the parking lot. Somehow those pics have disappeared, though.
Didn't see near the folks I'd hoped to, but with activities downtown and at the fairgrounds on Saturday, everyone is bound to have a different idea of where they want to be. I noticed also that there aren't many Buell "packs". We all tend to ride with others, so leaving our normal groups to gather as a group didn't seem to be a high priority. Not saying that's a bad thing -- I do it myself -- just a limiting factor.
I'll push harder to arrange a gathering point next year. I'm on the east side of town, somewhat geographically undesirable. Seems like renting a hall on the west side of town might be an option. Not sure what the Aprilia group paid for the hall at the State Fairgrounds, but that may be an option as well. Any other ideas?

That sucks. We got back to the backstretch as they were cleaning up the last of the mess and filling out paperwork.

I leaned the S2 into the wind ; )
I'm writing up a "The good, the bad, and the Uly" report I'll post it later in the week. Spending a lot of time playing catch-up at work right now.
Nice to meet Roger, ran into a few other Buellers and randomly approached anyone wearing a Buell t-shirt, even made it over to the Buell tent and the Demo rides.
This is right before the rain started again on Sunday.
