I had a locknut split on a set of S&S adjustable pushrods. These guys want to charge me an extra $10 because it doesn't make the minimum order. Anyone know of another source for such hardware? It's a 5/16-32", 7/16" jam nut. I may just find a tap and make one out of a hardware store jam nut.

Seems like that should be the kind of thing that should never fail and they'd drop one in an envelope and send you for free. Maybe a call to their customer service would be worthwhile?

Look in your yellow pages under "fasteners"...
I know that, near me, there are severla fastener wholesalers.
They're the only way to go. Try googling "fasteners", as well. This will net you some good internet leads for a quick sale w/quick shipping

That's what I was thinkin', and who I called. Maybe I'll try 'em again. The first time I called and left a message nobody called me back in the two weeks I was on vacation.

On the net I either can't find it in the right pitch or the right nut size.

Go to http://www.mcmaster.com/ and type "jam nut" into the search tool. McMaster-Carr supplies alot of vehicle and airplane manufacturers with hardware and fastners. They have a minimum order # but you still get them for cheap. I got something like 100 washers for like $3.50 one time.

I ended up ordering a tap and buying a 1/4" grade 8 nut with the proper external dimensions to drill/tap. Total cost is about $10 vs the $27 S&S wanted to charge me for a few damn nuts ($7 for a pack of five nuts, $10 COD shipping, $10 fee).

S&S, for your 50th you can kiss my damn ass.

they sell the nuts for the push rods as loose items, sounds like they are intended to break,

not good

glad you have been able to improvise the nuts BTW check them from time to time ( the push rod fasteners that is )

later..
