That big sheet of plastic is there for the same reason our swingarms and wheels are made in China. They're cost effective.MV does offer that same sheet in CF,but as it is soooo expensive to manufacture it's offered only on the "F4 Tamburini" model.

Funny...when Buell cheapifies it's written off as cost effective. But when everyone else does it it's called "bland/soul-less,blah,blah.

I don't think the strike against the fairing on the F4 is due to it being cheap, it's due to it being boring. If they made it out of carbon fiber or even a sheet of 24K gold it wouldn't be cheap at all, but it would still be slab-sided and boring.

Ebear,

Ah yes, I do indeed like the look of the quad undertail exhaust. At the same time, I absolutely abhor the single bung-hole undertail exhausts of some other motorcycles, the CBR600RR for one.

Sean,

Heard of a Brutale? That's what's underneath that big ugly plastic sheet.

Many say the Brutale is the most beautiful bike ever made. Of course, no one asked any Americans

If bikes are being based on artistic merit with little regard to cost why not these?

http://www.gc-cycles.com/

If you want a bike that you can ride the tits off of for less than 6 grand I'll take the buell. If I'm in the position to ride the tits off of a $25,000 bike I'll be happy as a clam but I doubt I'll be trying to say the buell pales in comparison. Give me or anyone, heck give BMC, the difference in price and tell them to build something and I bet they'll impress.

It looks like a Japanese 916, which is kinda funny when you consider that Tamburini freely admits to copying design cues for the 916 from a Japanese bike: Mitsuyoshi Hohama's NR750.

That's a woefully misleading statement. Castiglioni brothers, then owners of Ducati, their design brief included to make the 916 distinctive from behind, as well as everywhere else. Tamburini took the idea of underseat exhaust from the NSR to accomplish the design brief, is all. Nothing more.

Why not indeed. They're a little over decorated, but if Buell brought something out very much like that I'd worship at Erik Buell's alter. Hell, I'd probably blow him.

I once saw Giacomo Agostini riding a F4, & Barry Sheene next to him on one of the old #7's, it was at the old Montlhery circuit, near Paris, now sadly closed to the public.

One of my more memorable days.

Nice bike though, but I'd still not buy one even if I was as rich as Creosote...

It's not my thing.

Yes it's beautiful, & is duly recognised by most as so. I truly appreciate it's beauty, as a motorcycle, but art?

I can wander round the Louvre in Paris & be moved to tears by some of the art there.

The only bike that's ever moved me to tears was a 350 Matchless G5 lightweight......that kicked back!

The 916 is plenty distinctive, but it still shares some cues with the NR. Fox eye headlights, single-sided swingarm, undertail exhaust, etc.

I don't keep Tamburini in my office to ask him questions, but if he didn't pull those cues from the NR750 he sure has one massive rumor to dispel. Just for kicks, try googling "NR750 Tamburini" and see what comes up.

*edit- didn't realize how huge the 2nd picture of the NR was until I posted it, replaced with smaller NR picture.

If I had an S1, which I regard as the pinnacle of moto art when done properly, I would probalby look like one of those guys many on this board make fun of. An owner of a bike with low miles, always clean, big chicken strips.
In my eyes there's art in everything but when someone does art for art's sake it loses it appeal. The most beautiful art form is a woman. Simple(well at least visually: )), funtional(most of the time), and has a bit of a mean streak. When too much starts to be added to them, clothes, make-up, silicon, work, the beauty tends to go away...
IMO bikes and cars are the same, when they start having too many add ons, chrome doo dads, electronics, functionless body work, etc. the appeal goes away, which is where the MV is heading, and to some extent the newest buell...

I liked S1's a lot better before I got to actually ride one ;)

Still probably the coolest looking bike I have ever seen... but after having ridden one, I'll settle for the 9sx to ride and a nice S1 on a poster.

At least until the air cooled helicon shows up in a lightning chassis. Then I'll run (not walk) to my Dayton Buell dealer and start talking trade in.

Zat's why it always clean, low miles and lotsa unused tire: )
S1's were meant to be looked at and M2's were meant to be worked on and XB's were meant to be ridden.

I have ridden the mighty 1125R and WOW. I almost cried when I found out at homecoming 07 that there would be no Harley motor but instead a Rotax. I also Hated the looks of the bike from the pictures. I became the biggest hater out there of the 1125.

Don't ask me why, but it really is a Awesome bike in person. It Rides even better. It did not have the Bottom end Grunt of my 12r but it is sooo freekin smooth all the way to the top. I do think the Aftermarket will make this bike look even better. This bike is a Rock star. I can't say that it brought tears to my eyes like when I saw my first 1098 in person but it is still really awesome. I still favor my Harley Big Block Hot Rod engine and my smaller sexier Firebolt, especially when I gets me some more goodies, but the 1125r is still Billy-Bad.

I wish Erik would simply bring back into production the Tubers and broaden the whole selection, keep advancing all product lines, and keep the whole family happy. Right "REX". Wouldn't it be so unbelievably awesome if you could buy a Brand New off the show room floor 123cu cammed up 6 speed S1 "Orange-SunStorm" or "Burgandy-Wine" S3?

I simply love machines even if they sometimes turn bad.

Anyone seen any shots of the new 600cc Quad-Rotory hydro-drive bike Erik is working on with Mazda?

How's my theme song go ?????.......
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now......Thats weird I suddenly want a Doctor Pepper?

Thanks.

It's one of the very first Metmachex oil tanks made.

Yes that's the breather by the plate. I'm hoping to change the top end before Spring. I want to go 1250. I've plans afoot but the TVR purchase has cost me, so the S1W is in second place at the mo. Going 1250 I'm also going to go XB top end too. That might change the breather configuration. I get sick of been majorly puked on at least twice a year!

I really like the Oberon stuff. The mirrors are exceptional. Having fancied a bar end set-up, I experimented with that one. Problem is, I ride with two or three friends often, and there are times when there are several you end up riding with. It's impossible to ride hard and fast without good mirrors. No one in 10 years that I've been looking has come up with a set of handlebar mirrors that work as good as the stock Buell ones. Yes there are fancy billet ones, amongst others, but they all have a look for me that detracts from the dedicated performance only aspect I've kept the S1W's modifications to. Unfortunately, I don't find the bar end good enough on its own.

Mirrors are going to have to be considered though, as I'm replacing all the levers for ISR stuff, come the new year. ISR make clamps for their levers that have mirror bosses in them. But I'll wait and see where the ISR change takes me. I had considered approaching Oberon to replicate me the stock Buell mirrors, but in billet and ever so slightly longer.

chicken strips? I must be getting old

Thank you. I continue to do so. It has been a love hate relationship for a lot of years. That the Brutale 910 disappointed me this year was a real eye opener. The 750 Brutale was immense fun, but I'd have killed it in a few thousand miles. In the 910 they made it a hell of a lot faster, which is what I wanted, but they took away too much of the rawness the 750 motor gave it. Thus I found myself lumbered, in a good way, with my S1W. It really is a brute of a bike, and I enjoy the manhandling of it.

ok this isnt buell related really but we got off that a while ago with the MV anyways...so rocket what kind of ass time u got on jap liter bikes...how would u rate the 06/07 CBR1000RR seems how very few of us have any time with the 1125 how would u compare it to a buell and the 1098 and so on...the CBR seems to have the best power band for street riding...ive ridden a friends GSXR750 and i liked that a lot...i dont really see how a buell is going to out corner me with a rider of equal skill..the honda corners damn fine as far as i can see...as far as fast..holy snike its a beast the honda is...my XB9R was a hoot to ride and i do miss her at times..but one crack of the throttle on the honda and i forgive myself for sellin her...so can u tear the honda down/// looks,, i think its a damn sexy bike..but thats just my opinion.

The 1125R does nothing for me. I actually don't mind the styling, but I have no use for a complicated, quick revving liquid-cooled twin.

The old-school Buells have my heart, though if I had the space and the finances an XB would be in the stable as well.
