heading up to columbus to see my mom with the wife on the ultra because the cyclone is still down and i wasn't gonna have the wife do 550 miles on the blast when all of a sudden the cruise control go's off. no big deal, i'll just have to keep my hand on the throttle. what i didn't know at the time is when the cruise is down you also have a problem with the brake lights. the next time i pull over for gas, i'll see if a fuse popped. well needless to say, no fuse popped and connections seem to be good. i pull out the lap top to see where the nearest dealer is and it seems like it's knoxville hd on clinton rd(for anyone familiar with the area) well we turn around and go back 21 miles to the shop, go in and ask the guy if he can help me. he says he doesn't have anyone to look at it and calls their other store and give me the same answer. here i am on the road with out brake lights and this guy is gonna let me get back on the road without brake lights. what a humanitarian(crepe) so instead of going any further south i get back on 75 and head north again and get into lexington, ky. stop at man-o-war hd(named after the horse) and the service guy there(named mike) didn't even think about it a half a minute when he said that he had to take care of a couple things but he should be able to get on it without a problem. now i don't know what his reaction would be if i had been on the buell but the wife and i were both wearing our buell shirts so he knew we must like them. anyhow, a couple hrs later were back on the road which put us up in pickerington about 8 instead of 5. my hat is off to lexington and the people that work there and as far as knoxville is concerned, what goes around comes around. they better hope that the next time their on the road and something happens to them that the person that they have to deal with is more sympathetic to people than they were. although lexington isn't into buells like the sponsors here are, at least the buells are up front(all three of them) and if anyone has the opportunity to stop in and say hello, let them know that you heard from a fellow badwebber that i was treated pretty good. on the other hand, don't deal with knoxville.

Are you on a streak or what?
Actually I take full responsibility. I've always had a chronic bad luck problem. For my family, friends, guys that work for me, it's become a funny thing. I just expect it, and laugh about it, but have felt compensated by also continuously being so blessed in so many ways. The only really bad thing about the bad luck is that sometimes some unsuspecting soul hangs around just a little while and catches it, apparently it's sometimes contagious.
Glad to hear you found some decent Kentuckians and got back underway, and to your destination. It's downhill coming back so you can coast if you have to.

Hi Neil,

I see that in Knoxville, you've met the dealer that I bought my first Buell from. They almost used to do Buells. It would have been worth the trip to backtrack to Maryville. Smoky Mountain HD would have done what you need in their service department and they're open seven days a week. Also I like to support a very Buell friendly dealership.

You could also have called me, since you were in the area. I would have at least laughed at you for riding the Harley!

I have a truck and trailer that would have accommodated your tank if you had needed, but I would have laughed at you for riding a Harley!

You've been here, you,re welcome back even if I had to fix your bike myself, and even though I would have laughed at you for riding a Harley!

so what what are you getting at vern. are you saying i shouldn't have been riding the stratolounger. ed already has taken responsibility for my bad luck(your alright ed) had the m2 motor held up i would have rode that up there. after getting the bums rush in knoxville, i just wanted to get out of the area. i remember seeing the sign for smokey mountain back before i got into knoxville and i really didn't feel like backtracking any more than the 20 miles that i did to get back to that hd dealer. i figured i'd take my chance on getting up the road. i promise you though if i ever run into problems up around that area i'll check them out instead. btw, what did you ride before the uly. just because i don't have the uber sport tourer doesn't mean i don't want one one day. until then, i like having the best of both worlds with what i do have.
do you think they didn't want to do it because i was wearing a buell shirt.

Nah....they just don't care, Although I'd laugh at you for riding a Harley!

I rode a City-X that I had the good fortune of having a year and a half and 13,500 miles with no warranty issues at all. I bought that one at Knox HD and did take it in for a TPS reset at $70.00 after I installed the race kit. No one else had the reset software then. They also ruined my powder coat on my rear rim(which they replaced after arguing that it was like that from the last tire change. But it was indeed my first tire change.) Did you think I might have ridden a Harley so people would laugh at me?

I think your tuber is an awesome ride, and until now I didn't know you had a Hog. Did you think I would laugh at you for riding a Harley? NO, NO SIR, I wouldn't laugh at hardly anyone for riding a Harley....'cept you...and my son!

Hope you have a safe and great ride home!

no, actually i thought that you might have ridden rice. as far as what we have, it's all in the profile. my first street bike though was a honda 550 four, then i had my brother's kz1 ltd for a while. then there was this big laps in time before i got the 83 fxrt. and i also had an 01 ultra that we had set up with a trike kit so the old lady could ride but she didn't ride it much so we traded it for the 04 ultra. laugh all you want, but for me it's just a sickness that i have to deal with(yuk yuk yuk) talk to you later

Yeah, I did a while back. Started out with a '73 XL250 Honda. My first new bike was a '79 CB750F Super Sport. Somewhere in the late '80's I had a V65 Magna. I never got into the HD "thing". Too many of my friends could never seem to ride back then because their HD's just wouldn't run long enough.

I have many riding buddies that ride Ultras and Road Kings and even Vulcarie's and Shadows and V-Stars. But I would never harass any of them. Several of them think I look like a Star Wars Storm Trooper in my gear. Likewise, I think they look like beach goers in their T shirts and shorts with sandals!

the biggest reasons i like the ultra are the cruise control, 4 speaker stereo system and the longevity of the ride that your able to make. mostly stereo though. i'm finally gonna set up the head set for the cb and intercom system for the longer rides. you must take into consideration that i have done a 3100 mile trip on the cyclone but have done a 6600 mile trip on the other ultra.

I figure it this way: The ultra is good for the long haul 'cause it's got the bags and the stuff you need. The Buell is good for all of the other riding you do. So, I'm getting the bags and stuff I need for my Blast so I can turn it into an Ultra Classic Blast-o-Glide Sport Tourer (also known as a P3UCBGST)

it's about time someone came up with one of those things. but what about the stereo and the cruise control for the bike
