i have to say that this bill is the most self-serving piece of legislation that congress has put forth in a long time.

at least i can say i'm from GA where our senators/reps are brave enough to stand up and say "i'm against this bill and amnesty."

they know that they don't need new victims to vote for them. : )

If the rest of you think you have it tough . . . . I went to the senate site to contact NY senators and had to look at a picture of ms. clinton.

I can she her, a person who'd never in her lifetime paid for her own living quarters and has actually stolen silverware, as voting for putting a large group on the public teet.

I'm afraid the fox is watching the henhouse . . .

Yikes.

Good work, folks.

The second vote failed. It's tabled until 2009, I believe.

As Ryker77 is so fond of saying VOTE

Turn onto politics or they'll turn on you.

Vote but voted Informed.

I actually like most of the Amnesty bill. But the fine print and true details allow for SOO much range. Soo many waivers or exceptions. Plus I just outright don't trust the Federal government to uphold there end of the deal. Last year Bush and co signed into law the 800 miles of border fence - 13 have been built in 8 months.

Just enforce the current laws. Then secure the border. We can work out other details one bill/law at a time. Comprehensive is a scam word that means we win and you loose.

Yea, till after the election. The oldest trick in the book. My state assembly did the same thing - put off the shafting of the public till after the election.

New President. New Congress.

The reason it was tabled until then is that Joe Lunchbucket's memory is only slightly longer than the average goldfish. Joe Lunchbucket won't remember June of 2007 in 2009 and therefore won't vote these folks out in 2008.

We, on the other hand, will not forget those who tried to bend us over, Democrat or Republican.

You are on notice. Your time is up.

I will support the campaign of your same party rival. Should the same party challenger fail to beat you in the primary, I will support the "other party" candidate in the general election, Democrat or Republican.

Sit down! I agree 110% with Ft_bstrd on that. The world wide web and bloogers don't allow politicians to trick people as easy - countless websites keep track of every issue.

Don't neglect to vote for third parties. Sometimes voting the lesser of two evils is still picking evil.

more and more Americans are puking up there politcal party lines and becoming Independants.

Isn't it amazing that our politicians are mad because we the people let them know that we were unhappy with their actions.
Maybe it was because they tried to sneak it through without anyone really knowing what the bill was about.

Senators, for the most part, suck.

Listening to Hannity own Sen. Voinovich (sp?) the GOP senator from Ohio had me rolling. I'm sure his attitude and overall knowledge of the legislation in front of the senate is the norm. This guy cut straight to the chase, removed all doubts, showed just how arrogant and condescending these elected jerk-offs are.

I hope the masses remember this.

The TV and print media from the 1950's till now or a few years ago was all about advertising, spin, brainwashing, and clever 30 second sound bites.

Now in the modern age of media and different sources the truth can be found out with realitive ease. They can no longer just pete and repete clever spin over and over.

In the begining the sound bite was:
Jobs American won't do
then
Jobs Americans don't want to do
now
Jobs Americans aren't filling

Notice how it's the same spin but softer format. But still the theam is said over and over.

If you repeat something over and over, no matter how outrageous (or false) it may be, people will come to believe there's some truth in it.

"But the most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly and with unflagging attention. It must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over." -- Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, p. 184

"The purpose of propaganda is not to provide interesting distraction for blasé young gentlemen, but to convince… the masses. But the masses are slow moving, and they always require a certain time before they are ready even to notice a thing, and only after the simplest ideas are repeated thousands of times will the masses finally remember them." -- Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, p. 185

Quotes from Mein Kampf, trans. by Ralph Manheim, (Cambridge, Mass.: The Riverside Press, 1962).

----------------------------

Rule 1: Messages should be aimed at your target audience. The messages should create and reinforce the be key beliefs that your target audeince must adopt/believe if they are going to change behavior. (Lots of people care about this issue vs. people in your key "swing" neighborhoods are going to vote baised soely on this issue.)

Rule 2: Messages are not necessarily sound bites, they are the ideas you are trying to communicate to the public. (Messages are reinforced by sound bites, phrases, statistics, anecdotes.)

Rule 3: Messages need to be repeated and retold until they clearly reach the target audience. Messages shouldn't change frequently. They must be repeated over and over again until the target audience can recognize and repeat them.

Rule 4: Messages can be tailored for specific audiences, while still remaining constant.

Rule 5: Consistent messages should permeate all of your communications efforts, not just contact with the media.

Rule 6: Messages must be simple. They are ideas that can be explained in a sentence or two - if it requires a paragraph or two, keep working.

Rule 7: Messages take time to create. Don't rush the process.

How many places today will you hear about "global warming"?

Hitler would be proud!

Equating our President to Hitler is unfortunate.

And, context is important...

quote:

Now, a personal savings account would be a part of a Social Security retirement system. It would be a part of what you would have to retire when you reach retirement age. As you -- as I mentioned to you earlier, we're going to redesign the current system. If you've retired, you don't have anything to worry about -- third time I've said that. (Laughter.) I'll probably say it three more times. See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda. (Applause.)

My reference to Hitler was with regard to the "global warming propaganda machine".

Bush is no Hitler. I hope you didn't think I was drawing that comparison.

Propaganda is both evil and positive depending on whether you agree with the message.

Only some believe they their side doesn't engage in propaganda.

I believe that the iPhone marketing effort would qualify as propaganda.

You may not Agree with Ryker77 but at times he makes some interesting points,

Hitler held the German PPL in sway in part, because of his orratory, and right or wrong he was promising improvements in
general conditions, which he later carried out as Germany built the war machine.

I don't condone any of Hitlers actions as he led the German ppl down a path of great suffering and destruction.

My boss and I discussed that the other afternoon I hope that the word gets out to his constituents, he needs to be "Outta there"! I am inclined to believe that MANY career politicians harbour that attitude.

I know your in love with Bush for some reason.... But I only ment to show how politics, media, brainwashing, etc etc is all interlinked. Bush is far from Hitler.

Latest thing I read on global warming is......Ice age in 2020!?

http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/financialpost/c omment/story.html?id=597d0677-2a05-47b4-b34f-b8406 8db11f4&p=4

"Solar scientists predict that, by 2020, the sun will be starting into its weakest Schwabe solar cycle of the past two centuries, likely leading to unusually cool conditions on Earth. Beginning to plan for adaptation to such a cool period, one which may continue well beyond one 11-year cycle, as did the Little Ice Age, should be a priority for governments."

Ryker & I agree on many things. We differ in the "personal politics" arena.

Most political arguments break down to "your lying sack of cat crap is worse than my lying sack...."
The only ones really WORTH having are the ones that address the ideology, or better still, the desired limits.
For example, how socialist do we want to be? How can we get a broken school system to work?

Should we solve the mid east problems by using our politicians as substitutes for the Horses once thrown over castle walls by catapult? ( PETA won't let us use horses, any more, and the natural resource we have overabundance of is an excess of politicians & lawyers. ) I think the last idea is good, but doubt the horses butts....I mean congress would agree. By seniority, alternate parties, start with prez candidates, Senate, House, etc. By the time we reach Mayors, the problem should be over. If not, it's still win/win.

I'm not in love with our President at all. That's an accusation often levied by folks who prefer personal attack over issues.

Thanks for clarifying that you don't equate Bush and Hitler. Putting their quotes on political speech together gives that impression. Glad to hear it ain't representative of your opinion.

Anyway, the immigration bill got put aside again, so this thread should do the same, yes? : )
