I'm sure most have heard all my moaning, but I need some help planning. Someone here surely has an idea.
Recap: busted left knee, long list of ripped and busted stuff; they've screwed and anchored the outside bone and tendons back together, patched some of the capsule (I think), and something else 5/4/7, I'm putting partial weight on it, and can start walking carefully on it Monday, for two weeks, then he's going to do the rest. Could not convince him that I could ride if I could walk, think he's wondering about my head again.
He's going to do something on the inside, or right side of the knee, and the ACL, "oh we do those every day", and the PCL, which is apparently a pretty important part in the back of the knee to stabilize it. Must be something only special people manage to tear asunder. He put his finger near the bottom of my kneecap and said
"we'll drill right through here, put the scope in there and do the best we can". Then he said a year of therapy. I've been trying to tell him what great therapy motorcycle riding is.
So, I will have seven weeks on crutches for this first surgery, but one of the therapy people said, often, with tendons and ligaments, you're walking sooner.
Any PCL survivors out there?
What I'm trying to figure out.......
Does anybody have any idea when I'll be able to ride again? Or should I just go ahead and shoot myself (if Becky doesn't beat me to it) to put me out of my misery (just kidding, I still feel lucky). I sit on the XB, which I may never ride, shift gears and say BRUUMMMMBUMMBUMMBUMM, doesn't help much.
Really, I'm really not whining...really, just wondering and looking ahead!!!

I'm recoupin from a broken foot and ankle. Rode today, cast and all. Very good therapy. Had the ACL done a few back. No it dont hurt, yes its a pain in the... Crutches suck but use them! When your ready you'll know when to put the weight on it. Mine "itched". It was tellin me to move out so I did. Not sure if I'd try with a leg casted up though. Keep you chin up, could be alot worse. Yes, you will live to ride another day. Spend time polishin and cleaning spots on the bike you wouldnt normally do. Its good therapy also, best wishes.....Mattu

Oh Man!! Mattu, didn't know you were down too!! Was it bike related or just one of those Wile e coyote moments like I have all the time? You and Sanchez with ankles!! Last I knew(I'm behind) he was about to get one of those big 'ol boots, we were debating on how to get it on the shifter!!
Glad you managed to ride though, I don't have a cast, just one of those adjustable braces, with directions to KEEP IT ON. Doc spooked me pretty bad about trying to ride. I'm struggling to be good. Good is bad.

A Wile E. Coyote jet-bike moment! Wasnt my Buell thanks much! Twas an offroad thing with a really neat slide and wheely that went awry. Adjustable eh? Sounds like it could be done. I might try it. If its held straight that could be a problem. Idea just hit, Rent a hippo bike with the forward controls and never put your foot down. Ha ha. Luckily mine is the right foot so I dont rear brake as much or really atall. My old lady was pissed when she saw me come home though. Yeah, its the doghouse for the coyote!

Is it worth the risk???? The knee needs to heal whether you like it or not. You will get to ride again, Mike at work has a his knees replaced and still rides his goldwing. I am not sure how sane that is.

Always get a second opinion...

A "good" physical therpaist can work wonders post surgery or even to solve the problem and not need surgery.

Remember surgeons need to do surgery to get PAID.

Back in the day, got whacked by a cager (my bad for not paying enough attention) and suffered a broken right leg. When it healed enough, the doctor put on a knee-high walking cast and told me to put as much weight on it as I could stand. Was riding a BSA 441 Victor at the time (Yeah, it was that long ago) as my street bike. Had to bump start it, which wasn't that bad. Turned the shift lever straight up, and shifted with the bottom of the cast. Got a lot of weird looks, esp running on a cast to bump start, but I was riding.

If I don't get my knee back, though I believe I will, despite no promises, I'll try some of these ideas out(I know Diablobrian and others have found their ways)---except the jet bike thing. Sounds dangerous, and I think there's more of that story needs to be told. I haven't tried pushing off with a cast, but I did walk the Blast out of the barn, kind of poling with my left crutch. Got it in front of the house, came to my senses. Left it there for Beck to put up. She called me names!!!!
This is my second surgeon, the first one kept looking at that MRI and shaking his head. He sent me on to the one I have now. My ins co is denying the claim so far because of an old injury, it's been so good so long, I wasn't really concerned about a totally new thing. Don't we love ins companies. They are probably wondering if they will get paid. They will, it just may take a long time, but I don't think they would do any thing extra under the circumstances. They told me the 25,000 medical I had on the MC ins wouldn't cover the first surgery. They were right.
If you don't have good medical insurance, get all the medical you can on your bike insurance. I had all I could get, not enough.
Lost_in_Ohio (the voice of reason) is right, patience patience, it's not worth it. Keep trying to convince myself, and remember I could have knocked my block off.

Tore patella tendon, ruptured knee cap and shattered cartilidge under and in the knee cap (right leg). 16 month recovery time from date of surgery to walking semi-normal (was riding 6 months after surgery). Tendon surgical repaired and anchored, plastic knee cap, no cartilidge, small scars. Pretty much pain free, just grinds alot.

Broken tib/fib, shattered ankle (left leg). 6 month recovery time from date of surgery to walking semi-normal (bought brand new bike 5 months after surgery and was riding). Ankle pinned together, 8 inch titanium plate pinned along the inside of my left leg, tib/fib have pinned together. Major scars and swelling. Hurts everyday of my life.

Funny how you can brake your leg pretty bad and be riding in six months. But, messing up tendons, nerves and cartilidge can take so long to recover from. I think I amazed my doctors and physical therapist.
