whats the best way to re-route the breather hoses? i dont have a catch can yet but i want to get one soon. Can i re-route them without the catch can in a way it wont drip oil on my rear tire? or should i wait till i get a catch can?? anyone with pics would be nice!! | ||

Ian, I have an XB and a tuber w/XB rocker boxes. And the vent lines are routed without catch can. Just route the lines so that there is no low sections for oil to pool(oil mist).As long as there is air flow,the odds of it belching oil is slim.Put a little filter on the end and after you warm up the motor,check it for moisture.If it's real cold I get a little water. Just check it until you feel confident in your system.  Charlie | ||

Opposite advice! LOL I have a M2. I use a catch can, without even a little bit of filter fluff on top. (after my first one) I like to see how much I'm spooging. My old Yamaha 750 was a heavy breather, and a filter just paused the goo on the way to my rear wheel. Many people emphasize the routing be all down to filter/can to eliminate pooling. Seems like good advice, even though mine go up from the heads, along the frame & back to the battery. No issues. I'd go with the downhill routing, and don't spend $300 on a billet can. Mine cost 5 cents. After I drank the Coke. | ||

Patrick, If you don't have the XB rocker boxes, then you need the catch can. You can use a plastic air/oil separator (HD part) in each line going vertical, but it still doesn't work as good as the XB boxes.  Iv'e tried the catch cans, routing down works good for catch can,just got tired of always draining the can. That's one thing I like about Buells,alot of individuality.  Charlie | ||

so i can just pull them out of the air box and place them anywhere? I know a filter would be a good idea, but i thought that it was more complicated then that!! i guess i will do that asap! im also looking to get the catch can, i just think its alittle steep!! | ||

Ian, You can use either approach, but if you route the lines down then you have to have a catch can. Oil and water mist will follow gravity. Don't forget to plug the holes you leave in the air box. If you route them up, then read my first post carefully.  Charlie | ||

With XB heads/rockers follow Cyclonecharlie's advise. Cheap inline filters are available at any auto parts store. No need for a K&N on a crankcase breather. Go with gause/cloth rather than paper. My M2 routes out the side of the rockerbox's, you can just see my 'can' in my profile pic. Next to the battery. How steep is the catch can? A wee Jag is $35, I think, a Red Bull is 5 cents, or, if you can find one, a Harley Coffee can is quite stylish. |
