Anyone remember when you just unscrewed the gas cap and pumped the tank full and hit the road-it used to be so easy.My locking gas cap is slightly loose in the locked and unlocked positon,I wrestled with it and it just spins(you think Eric ever reads Badweb?-He`d sell twice as many bikes if he just eliminated a couple of dozen stupid hassles like this) Anyone know how to tease the cap off without removing and resealing the ring?

I can't understand your post. Are you saying the cap is unlocked and loose, but still can't be removed? What did you do when you "wrestled" with it? Is it the locking tab that's spinning?

It's not hard at all to remove the filler assembly from the tank and it's easy to reseal with Hylomar.

The lock nut holding the cap together comes loose and the darn thing spins and won't unlatch. So next time it starts to get loose you need to tighten it before it gives up on you.I had one do this but jiggled it enough to open and tighten up.You may have to take off ring.Just a pain but not hard.

I recall seeing the same issue described on BadWeB previously by another frustrated tbe framer. I think he did have to resort to removing the entire filler cap fitting and all in order to resolve the issue.

A search for "gas cap" (all words) in "subject lines" yielded the following most helpful information...
