Anony:

Here's a little gathering at Snail's house. We all got along, why can't you?

I say it's because you are a coward.

I tell you what. Every year Gary drives the demo trailer to the IMS in San Mateo and every year, I go. I usually stop by and talk with Gary, too. There's always a small fleet of Buell employees there, helping out. Why don't you make yourself one of them. You can tell me to my face what a terrorist I am. Gary will tell you there's nothing threatening about me, so you can insult me to your heart's content.

Or you can continue to hide behind your keyboard and your anonymous cover.

I'd but that Buell.

Is that really an untouched scan, or is there some photoshop work there?

Really cool article. Famous and talented road testers, facts plus emotion, great photos, great memories, balanced out, all in all just plain a fun read. Much more fun than reading this chain of madness. Thank God we finally got the article posted so I don't have to read this topic again!!!

>>>That was a rude thing to say

How would I know?. . . . I was summarily declared "stupid" the other day...by you.

Why would Erik care? . . . he was declared "arrogant" by someone.

Don't get me wrong, I dig the whole "we are the world" component present here. But sooner or later I suspect the rising tide of Buell will drown the pundits with their feet anchored to the bottom (that's nautical talk for you. : ) )

Court

P.S. - If you were irked by CYCLE WORLD and burned by BIKE. . . I got a hankerin' there are about to be some articles that'll REALLY send you over the edge!

Me too!

I am not here to argue or bash anyone or discuss anyones assets...

I am surely here to say, from my point of view, it is O.K. to be proud of whatever bike you ride and of your job(and whatever bike you may have a hand in building) and even of your own or your partners assets.

If everyone will calm down and cut out the petty name calling and general degradation of one another we can hopefully see things from a more objective point of view.

The way I see it is that the Buell owners are a bit zealous(and rightfully so these days) and are happy that the press Buell is getting right now is really positive. For some reason(there's a bit of back ground on that), that irritates some folks. The 'irritated folks' make claims(some not so nice) that the Buell owners are are delusional and somehow mentally unstable for liking what they like? Of course there are some that inadvertantly get caught up in the middle(Snail, Vik).
The 'irritated folks' are then personally insulted by someone(Buell employee?). It wasn't nice at all, but I am sure it was emotionally driven, in that his/her job and way of life is invalidated(on a small scale) and made a joke by some.

Not an excuse, just an explaination.

Keep in mind that the above post is MY point of view, my perspective and my opinion. So don't bother to tell me how many ways I may be wrong.

Snail, I can't believe we were so close together(Laguna) and never met. I was actually looking forward to it.

Pammy, ther is nothing irritating about Buell getting positive press. Nothing at all.

I just dont agree with the conclusion that the article came to. Neither do a few others.

Thats when the name calling started.

thats what alllllll of this is about.

If you don't agree with the conclusions of the Bike Magazine article, you obviously should direct your displeasure to the magazine itself.

Directing it in the middle of a Buell website was clearly not going to change the magazine's mind nor influence them in any way.

It WAS clearly going to get some folks here going, which is obviously what your true intent was.

The only question now is, do you have enough integrity to simply admit that is what you were up to and apologize?

We shall see!

"thats what alllllll of this is about."

To you...

We see it differently. We see that Buell got some good press... NOBODY knew EXACTLY what that press was other than at least the cover seemed to indicate that it would be good. YOU came over here (or brought your posts anyway) and said "Oh, they're just being overly optimistic. There's no way the Buell is the best cornering bike ever".

That's what this is ALLLLL about.

So we have two different opinions : ). That doesn't surprise me in the least : ).

"Pammy, ther is nothing irritating about Buell getting positive press. Nothing at all."

Then why did you show up here and say "Yeah... Whatever." instead of "Good job Buell." or even "Good job Buell. I'm interested in seeing exactly what's in the article though and why they actually chose "best"."

Optimism or pessimism implies that one hasn't sampled the fruit so to speak. They show a rider on a bike on the cover. It's probably safe to assume that the rider might be one of the people that reviewed the bike. This means it's not exactly optimism. It's an opinion at that point. It also seems to be the opinion of some VERY professional people...

Rocket,

No, I wasn't saying that YOU were offering bait for an arguement, I was saying that I wasn't going to take the bait from a troll. I was saying that your observations were correct and then stating what course of action I was going to take to stear clear of shrill and also to kill shrill.

A little cryptic at the end, I realize.

So .... 7 days and some 380 posts after this thread was started, some people still swagger in, poisoned pen drawn, itching to make someone else cry ... How pathetic is that (rhetorical question).

Now, if you'll all take a few deep breaths and let the blood red fog fade for a second, maybe you'll realize:

1) it's Friday, and you could have a nice weekend of riding in front of you - regardless of your MC brand of choice

2) how extremely fortunate most of us are, to have "problems" such as which bike works best for us.

3) these are motorcycles - a recreational vehicle for most of us. Not life-or-death politics or a cure for cancer.

So Back ... .... Off the Personal BS and behave like relatively civilized people.

Given even the slightest of efforts, it's entirely possible to debate while remaining polite and while respecting the person you debate.

Should you find yourself unable to do this (in essence adhering to Badweb Netiquette), may I suggest you take a milk crate time-out in the garage with you favorite bike. You're welcome to rejoin when you've simmered down.

Thank you for your consideration

Henrik

Geesh. Read the article. It's a fluff piece. Its a great fluff piece, a fun fluff piece, an insightful fluff piece, and captures more truth then any objective comparison I have read in a long time, but it is a fluff piece... educated opinion. Well educated opinion though.

Basically, a bunch of guys that know a LOT about a LOT of bikes and have put a LOT of miles on the street got together and made list of bikes that are the most fun to go ripping around on corners.

We understand you were just expressing an opinion Chop... all 273 times you expressed it.

What's your lifes work Chop? If you got a prominent and respected trade publication to put out a cover story on it, about how great it was. You were going against the grain for decades, doing really cools stuff, and getting nothing but grief from the mainstream.

Then you came to a "Chop's enthusiast site", and found somebody implying "I wonder who at that magazine got paid off to suddenly like what Chop is doing?".

Keep in mind the same people posting that were going out of their way to avoid recognizing that a significantly lighter unsprung mass would translate to a significant handling and braking advantage. You aint stupid, I *know* you understood more then you let on, I think there was an element in trolling in what you were doing.

I also think you are being unfair in your characterization of the site. Do you honestly believe we don't tolerate criticism of Buell here?

With that off my chest;

Tramp - you crack me up man : )

I've met and personally know Chop, Vik and Snail to be good people; met Vik at Home Coming, shared a few drinks and lots of laughs. Had the honor of crewing for Chop and his dad during Chop's first landspeed record run - absolutely good people. Chop also gave me a lot of help setting up the Team Elves site initially. Had the good fortune of spending time with Snail and his daughter at Bonneville as well - very good times with interesting and stimulating discussions over dinners.

Heck, even Brian is a good guy - more so in person than as his online Cecil persona, but still ; )

IMNSHO, personal attacks on people you may not even know, only weakens your position when debating.

Henrik

Jon, I realized how your post was written after I hit the 'post' button. No harm done in either direction then

Tripp, about 210 miles north of London town. Gimme a shout - it's a small and busy island and us Brit's view 210 miles as a long way to go LOL. Thanks for the head up too!

Court, much appreciated. I've lived on BadWeB too long in the past with a sore head. Life's good and getting better. No reason why I shouldn't share that here.

SO ABOUT THOSE CORNERS

You need to understand British humour, especially if the math thing doesn't add up. It's not meant to. It's an exaggeration so as you know how damn stoked the testers were.

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT BIKE ARE SAYING

It seems to me to confuse this with race ability, budget, power or track prowess or otherwise for an XB12R is to miss the point.

RHF = Risk of Hospital Food

I guess that if I wanted a superbike I'd go buy one, but since I don't, I won't.

I just spent $14,000 on an ST1300 since my '99 S3 has 54,000mi. on it and I was getting leary of taking it on long trips. I basically gave my son my Blackbird. Guess which bike I still prefer to throw my leg over?..... The S3

Why? Because it is far and above the most fun to ride. Sure, it doesn't have the smoothness of the ST. It doesn't have the fantastic power of the Blackbird but it does have the streetability that Buell has designed into his bikes.

Everytime I come back to this thread it seems to get worse.
Blake,my question is this--why has this anon been allowed to sling insults around with impunity while this sort of behavior by another would not be tolerated?
I really do expect an answer.
This is NOT a rhetorical question.
I said back at the beginning of this thread that an apology was called for and after reading the latest personal attacks I have to say I am dissappointed and offended by it all.

Anti Anon Folks - The Anonymous feature is a unique element at Badweb. It is provides an opportunity to have BMC or HMC input. It has been a real benefit to have this pipeline. I for one was glad when Anon chimed in while we waited for the ULy bike to appear and were beset with Photoshop fraud. Thank you, "Oh Great Anon", whoever you may be. However, the Anon feature is not meant as a shield for anything else. However, Anon will not be "outed".

Anon - I have meet Vik and Chop just a few times, and have nothing bad to say about those encounters. They always deport themselves cordially and are cheerful to boot. They and their spouses came to the dinner that we at A.S.B.N. put on for Erik the Friday of Laguna. It was very expensive and quite a long way to go for dinner. Warm greetings were offered to Erik. We at A.S.B.N. invited them because we knew they would like to see Erik and hang with the Buellers.

They have obviously moved on from Buell, and have a different level of appreciation than many Buellers here IMO. Vik and Chop,is that a fair statement?

I hope not to offend anyone that I know (I see some of these guys every month,YIKES!) with this:

Arguing is a two way street. All involved here are equally guilty IMO. No, I will not expand on that statement, except to say this: Some are better at it than others.

Gallant antagonists... you have secured the honor of your kings...now for the sake of the innocent...lay down your arms and call it a draw.

In the words of the Joker, "This town (thread) needs an enema". Don't think of me as the thread police...think of me as a thread proctologist.
