hello fellow buellers! my brother just purchased a used 03xb9r, it has a home made exhaust (cherry bombish) not sure about any other mods. the bike has 2000 miles on it, he just rode it home last nite. i've had the pleasure of taking it for a ride this morning but noticed a couple of problems. the front brake thumps, thump thump thump, however it performs great it just gives a thump through the handle bars. another thing is, a pop coming from the airbox could this be an intake leak? any input would be appreciated. i'm very impressed of how the bike handles! wow! it felt like i could steer it with just my legs! i am sure if i timed myself through the twisties i could go faster on this bike than mine even though i have 260cc's more on mine. my bike is definitely faster in a straight line but feels like a huge beast compared to a xbr.

The head bearings need to be readjusted, that is where the thump from the front brake is coming from. You need to jack the front end off the ground with nothing supporting the forks or front wheel. Loosen the pinch bolts on the LOWER triple clamp at the fork legs, then loosen the pinch bolt for the CENTERCAP on the top triple. back the center cap off, then retighten. Your suppossed to use a lightwight spring scale like for weighing fish until you get about 6 pounds of resistance when you turn the forks at the axle. Then retighten the pinch bolt at the centercap, just snug (14-17 INCH pounds) then retighten the pinch bolts on the lower triple.
