A student here at Texas Tech died this week after a pickup failed to yeild the right of way. The accident happened at 1am. He survived a day or two at the hospital, but was pronounced dead later.

The police were able to locate the pickup and the owner, but so far are unable to prove who was driving it at the time.

...trying to be tactful...

mmmrrrr uhhh I don't get it. If they are not "one of our own" [a badwebber] or there is not a significant lesson to be noted learned..?

I do NOT set out to trivialize the loss here, but I've quit or failed to join other boards because of, among other reasons, constant hypocrital preaching of gear and safety that is offset every third hour with another memorial posting.

Our signal to noise ratio here has been pretty darn good. Can someone second my motion, or, put me in my place.

steppin off the soapbox...

I agree Brad.
You dont see constant postings here about car accidents that kill folks none of us know, why do the same with bikes? Hell we all know the deal & we realize the dangers involved but posting about accidents where nobody here knows anything about the accident or has any relation to it does no good.

i like to see it if theres something important to get from it. i'm not saying that any one persons life isn't important. just that i don't want to read an obituary just for the sake of it. if its a badweb member (god i hope not) or a very pointed story then please share. but if i want a constant reminder of how dangerous it is to ride a bike, i'll talk to family.

I personally just try to ride expecting every single cager I see to pull out in front of me. Thats the only way.

I always thought the best advice was, "ride like you're invisible." Now, I think better advice is, "Everyone sees you just fine, and they're all trying to kill you."
As far as the "RIP" postings, they're just one of the reasons I only lurk on pretty much every other bike board. Taxman said it best here, "if I want a constant reminder of how dangerous it is to ride a bike, I'll talk to family."
