Can I replace these with grade 8 bolts from a local supplier?

Anything special about the factory bolts?

Thanks

yeah I took one out & headed off to the hardware store for grade 8 versions. easy. I recommend supporting the bottom of the engine though. even though I did one at a time, the mount moved slightly & the bolt wouldn't line up.

The bolts are not really special ,but be serious with the mounting and tightening procedure is what everyone always tells you!

It may be good to first run the new bolts into the head (until they bottom) without the mount bracket and measure distance from the head to the underside of the bolt head - and then compare to the thickness of the mount. One of the primary contributors to Mount/bolt/ head fracture is inadequate clamp load caused by the bolts bottoming out and creating a false torque reading prior to achieving proper clamp load.

Front engine mount bolts are grade 9... not grade 8. If your asking if grade 8 bolts from a local supplier such as ace hardware or home depot... I'd say no way. If your going to a direct speciality supplier their bolts are probably better quality. However I would look up the ratings of a grade 9 bolt and stick to that. We still see grade 9 bolts breaking and damaging heads. With the engine hanging the way it does I would want to know it's bolted in the best way possible

But i would not go for the full threaded bolts.

Smart man John, at a $1.40 each no one should use anything but these.

Also be sure the threads in the head are clean.
