It finally happened, my gas cap refused to come out today on my way into work.
These bikes have the weirdest problems.
Luckily, I was real close to home and knew right where a spare was sitting. It only made me 15 minutes late for work (instead of 25 minutes early).
Piece uh crap.

No, this happened this morning on the way into work.
I took a look and the one that failed on my X1W is from Taiwan, the ones that have never given me any problems (S1, S2) are from England.
For the ones that have just gotten stuck in there, where were they made?
P.S.
I read the thread on the fix kit; mine didn't spin uselessly, the latch turned about 3/8 of a turn and got jammed stuck.

Ethanol in the fuel causes the plastic part to expand to the point that it gets stuck.

I just bought an aluminum replacement part from Gmman03 so that won't ever happen again.

It only cost $50.00 and it is beautifully made too.

Highly recommended even if you don't use ethanol fuel in your Buell.

That's kind of what I was thinking. It looks like it got hung up on those metal posts it has to boink past.
How do I get in touch with this mysterious Gmman03?
Everything around here is 10% ethanol.

Can you grind the plastic stuff down so that it wont get stuck? Or maybe I should get a Gmman special too? Hate to have this happen to me. Running out of gas at a gas station, of all things, would really suck.

I did not buy the aluminum kit. I purchased the other fix kit that utilizes the plastic piece. I dis sand/ file it down and have had no issues since

Just installed the gas cap fix and seems to work great. I had to tighten the nut more than the original to ensure a good seal but no more worries that the cap will be stuck at the pumps. Tried filing the plastic one and it did help, but the alloy replacement just makes it a non-issue.

The aluminum part is still available on Ebay.

It is listed as X-1 Gas Cap Fix.

The price has dropped from $50 to $45 and now the shipping is free.

Highly recommended and a great deal.

"The price has dropped from $50 to $45 and now the shipping is free"

That is a ridiculous deal. Anyone who does not get this will eventually regret it. Every time I fill up it is worth it, if not just to look at it.

does that work on a 96S1?
mine needs a special wiggle to come off.
is that what the aluminum fix is about?

Thanks for the info - I just bought one.
Being stuck at the pump once was enough for me.

I've got it installed on the X1 and so far, so good. It takes a little experimentation to get the nut tightened just right.
