What's up peeps? I have a '99 X1 that idles fine and runs fine under load. When the throttle is backed off, engine breaking, it wants to die. It does it with 2 different ECMs, different plugs and temperature doesn't matter. Suggestions or advice? I'm thinking coil at this point. I can't test the coil live because the bike has to be moving.

I think you're close. I would check the wires instead. Sounds like under engine braking, the rubber mounted engine moves forward a bit and rubs a wire.

If it was the coil, it would sputter out under load. It's harder to pop a spark under increased pressure.

No mice. It's a buddies bike and I heard it run today. It sputters, pops, hesitates and loses power around 2000 rpm. It's my first time dealing with an X1. The injectors are sealed so there is no air bypass through rings of the injectors. Is there a common issue with the throttle body or injection I'm not aware of?

Thanks for the help guys.

Are you positive that you have no intake/exhaust leaks.

Last year a WI Bueller from Beaver Dam was over here. Ted finally figured it out.....injector o-ring failed. He replaced both and rode out like new.

Easiest way to check for intake leaks is non-lit propane or mapp gas. If you can get a long rubber hose over the nozzle it's the best way to get in close to the seal.

Hope you find it. These bikes put a smile on your face when they run right

I sprayed carb cleaner around the intake. I thought it was the throttle body but to no avail. We'll keep looking.

Natex - It isn't just under engine braking. When I rode it today, the engine hiccuped under acceleration also.
