Author Message   Andy350 Posted on Monday, September 08, 2014 - 11:33 am:        I recently replaced the rocker gaskets and put the bike in 5th gear so i could turn the motor over. Buttoned everything back up and now i can't get the motor any lower than 4th gear. Any ideas?   Hoser Posted on Monday, September 08, 2014 - 11:43 am:        Could be ............ Condensation / resulting in rusted trans internals. I've seen this before a number of times. The two needle bearings inside fifth gear get damaged from water and sieze to the mainshaft , pretty much the same thing as being in fifth gear. Wonder if it has to do with the bike being shifted while stationary / not running?   Akbuell Posted on Monday, September 08, 2014 - 12:40 pm:        If you have ridden the bike and it shifted fine before, it is most likely still fine. In my experience, the transmission depends a lot on the engine running for shifting, and one or both trans shafts not turning can make shifting difficult or not at all. Try rocking it back and forth and shift to 5th, then try shifting down while still rocking back and forth. Or start the engine and ease the clutch in and out while walking the bike and shifting. The bike shifted fine before, I'm finishing up a tear down / rebuild so hopefully soon I'll be able to run it again and see if it shifts then. Thanks for your help guys   Buellistic Posted on Monday, September 08, 2014 - 03:08 pm:        THE TRANSMISSION GEARS MUST BE TURNING OR YOU WILL DAMAGE THE TRANSMISSION !!! MEANING THE ENGINE MUST BE RUNNING OR YOU ROCK THE BIKE BACK AND FORTH PRESSING/PULLING ON SHIFT LEVER !!! THE TRANSMISSION OIL SHOULD BE CHANGED EVERY 5000 MILES !!!
