Like the title says, can I use the same fat bar adapters on my x1 as the people with xb's would? I want to throw on a set of driven cr low fat bars. | ||

the problem for the tube frame bikes is that there is no clean way to mount your gauge plate to these. I bought them for the very same reason. you have to mount your stock bar clamp on top of these on the two open holes seen in the picture, it really leads to a tall stack that doesn't work well.... | ||

Im working on solving the problem though....I've been working with a fantastic machinest to try and turn my "vision" into a reality so that those of us with tube frames can run 1-1/8 bars. its been a long process and were nearing the finished product. not sure what the total cost for production is going to be as were in the mock up phase at this point and still tweaking final product. but it looks something like this! I'll start a new thread with photos and info once I get it all sorted out.     | ||

I forgot entirely about the gauge cluster...has anyone run the renthal street low or ultra low bars then? They look to have a similiar bend as the Cr low bar but are 7/8". | ||

I am running renthal Street Hi bars I believe...I can't remember what bend they are. I will say that the control ends of the bars are pretty short before getting into the bend and makes mounting the controls a little tricky. I LOVE the bars though. | ||

I have a small collection of 7/8 bars sitting on a shelf now....they all hit the manta tank at full steering stop, its why I headed down the path of designing a part that would allow me to run the 1 1/8 bars. there are more choices out there with less pull back. really like the bars I have now. | ||

that concept was the basis from what I started from. no one seems to make this for a tube frame bike that you still want to run the stock gauges and mount plate from. I had not seen this version though, yet it still has the same problem as the one that I started from, no way to cleanly mount the gauge plate at the correct angle to fit behind the small bikini fairing. | ||

Would it be possible to ream out the holes to your desired size? Would that leave enough meat on the clamps? I eventually found low bars (stock diameter)that still hit the tank, then chucked them up in a vice and bent them untill they no longer touched. Took a long cheater bar but has worked like a charm. | ||

the clearances in the stock bar clamps dont support reaming out to 1 1/8th...ive looked at all options and finally with the help of a great machinist...ended up with the solution. I found great bars in the 1 1/8 sizes that dont hit the tank and allow for full stop to stop for garage and parking lot maneuvering. Ive got a revision mounted now thats not quite final, but it works great!! |
