Author Message   Onespeedpaul Posted on Thursday, October 11, 2012 - 03:18 pm:        like the title says, i'm looking for any preparation tips i should follow before attempting to crank a former basket case S1? as far as i know the engine ran before it was totalled, and it has been sitting disassembled for three maybe four years now, but i've finally got it all back together with a fresh battery, oil/fluids, tires etc. and just about ready to try to start it...   Snafu5962 Posted on Thursday, October 11, 2012 - 04:25 pm:        Have a fire extinguisher handy haha   Onespeedpaul Posted on Thursday, October 11, 2012 - 04:37 pm:        always i was thinking more along the lines of any special procedures to oil-prime the engine since it's been sitting so long.   Onespeedpaul Posted on Thursday, October 11, 2012 - 05:38 pm:        to be clear, i bought the whole bike in about 7 tote bins of varying sizes, engine was never disassembled/rebuilt what have you, i just put the whole bike back together. Plugs out, turn the engine over w/the starter, until you see oil out the return line into the tank. Re-charge the battery while you look for oil leaks. Turn the fuel on, check for leaks, start it. They will. And it will gradually go away as they pump up.   Hybridmomentspass Posted on Friday, October 12, 2012 - 09:51 am:        when I redid my S3 (totally torn apart, new oil lines, oil tank cleaned out etc etc etc) all we did was pull the plugs and crank it over until the oil light went out. Then plugs in and it fired right up and ran fine. The gas was still "on" (its EFI), everything normal minus plugs. As stated, the lifters will sound REALLY odd, but as the pressure gets built up it'll be fine.
