Bought a 2000 M2 as a project bike and have been slowly working on getting it running. Last night, I tested the intake manifold seals by spraying them with carb cleaner. The engine promptly increased rpm's, which tells me they're leaking. This bring me to my two-part question:

1. Where can I get replacement intake seals? I found these seals (http://www.ebay.com/itm/INTAKE-MANIFOLD-AND-CARB-S EALS-HARLEY-/200736709590?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Acc essories&hash=item2ebcd71bd6&vxp=mtr but are not sure if they'll fit.
2. Is there an updated manifold design that doesn't rely on the seals to hold the intake manifold to the cylinders? This is the first time where I've seen the flange do almost nothing to hold the manifold to the cylinder and compress the seals.

I've been reading info from this forum for a few weeks, you guys rock!

American Sport Bike has them. No updated manifold design. You might buy the special allen wrench to help remove and properly tighten the manifold back down which American Sport Bike sells also. You've got yourself a 12 year old bike, no telling if they've ever been replaced. Heat does break the rubber down, and even if the bike sat mostly, they will dry out. There will be some other seals for sure you will need to replace

Thanks for the reply Blackm2!

The problem I'm having with the bike before I noticed the intake seals were bad was fuel-fouling plugs. Was also having a problem maintaining speed which I believe was due to the bad intake seals. In the 20 miles I've ridden the bike, it's surprisingly fun!

IIRC TwinMotorcyles is developing newly designed ones that are supposed to be better than the originals.

Cometic has intake seals that are supposed to be better than OEM. I'll be installing some soon.

I ended up purchasing OEM Harley seals from my local dealer, surprisingly cheap too!

Do you think it would be a good idea to run a bead of high-temp RTV silicone around the area where the flange contacts the manifold? I want to be absolutely sure there are not leaks in the intake system. Need to have the bike ready for Biketoberfest!!!

I would only opt for RTV for applications which blow, not suck : ) OEM has worked for me.

I did see something on twinmotorcycle on their new gasket, but I don't know if it is available yet.

I just don't understand how the force exerted by the o-rings is enough to keep the manifold from sliding out.

Has anyone tried to make a one-piece manifold that has a channel for a standard round o-ring? Seems like it wouldn't be too difficult to figure out...

You want to use some type of lubricant on the seals(helps them go into place better)I use vasoline pet. jelly. Others on here use Sly-Glide(Hardware store or Auto Zone)
I tried James seals last.(blue) They are larger in size and a little harder to fit at first.They also have a kit(e-bay) seals and 12 pt.socket head bolts(8mm wrench)that look like they would make life easier.

Installed the new intake seals and carb seal last night, bike is running great! No more hesitation from 2500-3k rpms and no more fouled plugs! Woot!

Too bad my front brake caliper locked up on my test ride...
