Hello everyone, I'm recently a Buell owner for the second time. Seven years ago I got rid of my 2000 M2 due to having children. A few days ago I picked up a 12000 mile 96 S1 lightning bone stock for $2300, unfortunately it has been layed down at some point. The header is scratched but the front brake was redone by the dealership and all recalls done (shock, swing arm) and bushings replaced. She runs good but man it would be nice to have a Mikuni on there (one that doesn't cost 300+ Back when I had my cyclone, parts were easy to find, like pipes and intakes and such. Where is the best and cheapest place to find pipes and intakes for my 96 Lighning. Im having a really hard time locating pipes for my 2" collector and intake for the keihin carb. |

Mac:Header scratch can be sanded-out with 100 emery sand-paper then wet-sandpaper 200 and up to whatever shine you want. |

Check ebay and American Sport Bike for a 2" collector type Vance and Hines, those were pretty good for the pre 99 Buell's. American Sport Bike can also take care of the intake for you or find a forcewinder or something of the sort. |

If you get a V&H, get a carbon one. The aluminum ones like to break. The rear mounting channel either splits or detaches and I don't think anyone's found a mounting solution for it yet. Just a rite of passage... And if it were me, I'd tune the CV40 correctly and ride it (actually...I have...on my S1W, S2, and M2). I hate Mikunis. If I wanted an on/off switch, I'd mount it on the right switch housing and get rid of the throttle cables. You can also put late model cams in there without any other major changes - do them when you do your rockerbox gaskets lol. I run a Thunderstorm top end in my S2, with X1 cams, and love the profile and power curve. Or if you're a low-end torque fan, you can put in M2 cams...just do your bronze gear at the same time since you're in there. Easy upgrades for an already great bike. Good score! |
