My '98 S3 has a set of Oury soft rubber grips that are so soft they are deteriorating and rubber goo is coming off on my gloves. Time for replacements. Any advice appreciated. Do new ones just slip on? Never replaced grips before. Thanks! | ||

LH Grip is probably glued on. Just need to cut it lengthwise & peel it off then clean the tube of any residue. RH side slips on over the throttle tube.You will need to take the RH control housing off & detach the throttle cable ends. Install the new grip + tube. reconnect the throttle cable ends & then remount the RH control housing. I recommend American Sports Bike for grips. They have a good selection. Chris C | ||

Just blow some compressed air between the grip and the bar, you'll be able to twist the old grips off without cutting or removing anything. rt | ||

Kinda late responding but I have a set of grips called grand touring. Made in the usa and very comfortable. Do a web search for grand touring motorcycle grips. Best 20 bucks spent. | ||

I always replace with the stock ones. Price is good and they do for me what I need. (I really don't like the sticky, softer compound and gel grips.) | ||

I am liking the Rizoma grips very high end and beautiful grips. I got a set for free as the PO had them on the bike already. I had the buell traction grips and i did not like them. they were not my style of grip and they felt to weird. I had to take them off. Just changed my stock grips to the sportbike grips from www.americansportbike.com, Used my pocket knife to cut left grip and the throttle grip just pulled right off! Then after cleaning the bars with soapy water and sandpaper I soaped up the bars (not as much on the Throttle tube) and then squeezed my soapy rag inside the new grips and then slid them on! Left Grip will be ready to go right away but wait 24hrs for the throttle! Because of the plastic throtttle tube it will be slick, but 24hrs it will be dry tight and ready to ride! Took all of about 20 min for the whole Exchange! | ||

Those are some nice grips, the Lux grips on Russ's Ninja sure look great, 130.00 pounds though, sheesh! I wonder if they are stocked locally to avoid paying so much for shipping. Mick, I usually use aerosol hairspray like we did for bicycle hand grips when I worked in a shop. Helps as a light adhesive when it dries, and makes a good lube to slip them on. | ||

Bummer, I have them on my GPz and have done thousands of miles on the grips. Larger diameter very comfortable. Look around some more, maybe you will get lucky | ||

Thanks for all the help. I ended up choosing these that I found on ebay. They installed in 10 minutes using the razorblade removal/soapwater slip on method. I like the look and they feel just fine. The easiest and best way to put grips on (I put a lot on when I was a bicycle mechanic) is with an air compressor. Use one of the rubber tipped sprayer things to blow air between the grip and the bar. With a bit of practice grips slide right on and off, this is the easiest and quickest method by far. You can also clean the bar and grip with alcohol or something of the like to get a nice clean surface and optimum stick. Getting hairspray or soap to stick can be tricky and besides with the frequency I changed the grips on my motorcycle I just glue them both on and forget about it. Lock on grips are the only way to roll on a mountain bike, sooo much better than traditional grips. | ||

It's safe to say there are different and both efficient ways to put on grips! I have never used the Hairspray method but I have used the Dish Soap method many times over the years with Great Results! I also have never used Compressed air but can see how it would be easy! Only problem with that is not everyone has a Air Compressor! Every one has Dish Soap! Well At least they should!  |
