Ok Boys and Girls,
As most of you know, i have an on going fun time w/ my supertrapp exhaust on my 02 X-1, from the origonal one busting apart at 60 MPH (which is a long drawn out story), to now the set screw on the baffle just poped out.

Ok here is my question. Is the set screw on the supertrapp IDS muffler the same size as the 3 screws that hold the end cap on? and would it be safe to ride the bike 70 miles home w/ only 2 screws in the end cap.. or would i be better off leaving the end cap on and just fixing the baffle when i get home?

Right now the bike is in a parking Garage in downtown Birmingham Mi, and places to find parts are few and far between... nearest auto parts/hardware store is 6 miles down woodward ave.

If i can just put one of the end cap screws in temporarally to get me home, i will just do that w/ no problem. but if you guys think the end cap will fly off or something please let me know.

I think the baffle screw is larger than the end cap's.
Is yours the new style IDS?
I lost the baffle bolt on mine.
I was made aware of the problem by a strange rattle some time later.
I wouldn't worry about riding home without the screw.
Just replace it as soon as you can.
I bought a stainless steel allen bolt from the local hardware store.
I used antisieze on the threads.
No problems since. (about 2500 miles).

kwel.. i got about 3000-4000 miles on this pipe.. thinking about gutting it, but we will cross that bridge when we come to it.. I just tried fixing it in the garage here in town, (parking garage that is) and no such luck.. so looks like i am just driving home w/ it

I think what happened is the baffle shifted.
You will need to pull the rear off and realign the baffle core so the holes line up.
Might as well check the packing while you are in there.
If you totally gut the packing, the front has a tendancy to rattle.
When you open it up and check inside, you will see what I mean.

i think the screws are 1/4x20x1/2 screws. i also lost my baffle screw and one out of the end cap. after losing a second screw i installed them with internal tooth lock washers and havent had a problem since.my baffle is gutted and the rattle isnt noticeable. it also cleaned out a flat spot in my power curve

hahaha, well for now (until my forcewinder comes in the mail) i just fixed the muffler.. chopped up my knuckles pritty good too, but all is right again in Supertrapp land. When i get my force installed, and get ready for the TPS reset, i will gut the baffle cause it is pritty bad, but that isn't till sunday.

THANKS FOR THE HELP. and the end cap screws are the same size as the set screw for the baffle.. I ended up getting a 1/4"x20x3/4" machine screw, cause that is all i could get from the local store.

I also had to re-tap out the threads for the screws that hold the discs... that was a BEAR! got the darn thing back together and them broke off a screw so had to take it all apart, and then pull out the remains of the screw, and re-tap out the holes.. not that big of a deal but time consuming on a nice riding day.
