Hey guys,
Looking for tires for a M2. What do you guys recomend and how wide could i go if I wanted to stretch it out? I know its not the best handling idea and the factory says 170 but will a 200 fit? I pretty sure the rim is 5 inchs but some on ebay (not pm just the regular 3 spokes) say 5.5 inchs. I have a 2006 harley springer with a 200 on the back and really like it and i believe it has a 5.5 rim.

This topic has been hit hard quite a few times Justin. The long and short is, if you have the cast wheels you should stick with 170, if you have PM's you can go to 180 comfortably. Keep in mind that the wider you go, the worse it will handle or drop in to the turn. If you have mostly straight roads where you live you might not care. I've heard that 190's will fit, but I think a 200 you are REALLY pushing it safety wise and you probably will be rubbing on the swingarm or the belt or something.

Oh and I run Metzeler Z6 Interacts on mine, stick excellent, seem to in the rain as well.

I have the PM rims and prefer the 170 as the bike corners much easier. If you are going bigger for the look, 170 vs 180 is not really noticeable. 200 would be, but mostly because it probably won't fit and it would ride like crap

Trying to squeeze a fat tire on a skinny wheel isn't going to make it look much wider. If it does, it will only be because doing so causes the middle of the tire to flatten out, which is is the cause for the slower turn-in, and consequently smaller contact patch at moderate lean angles.

Awesome. Thanks guys I really appreciate it. My 02 fatboy had 130s on it and it handled so much better than my current springer with a 200 on back. Im just a wider tire .

I have a 99 x1 with a 190 Michelin pilot power on PM rims. I can fit a credit card between the belt and tire. It does take more to lean into a corner but you get use to it after a while. Just need to lean and trust that sticky tire!! It looks soooo much better then the 170. regardless of the tire size this bike wants to go straight.

Oh and if you want a 200 on the back then you need a chain and sprocket kit

Cool. Thanks guys. I guess the verdict is that the wheel will hold a 200 but the bike setup will not without switching to a chain.
That sound about right?
and is the factory wheel 5.5 inches? I have been checking around and keep finding 5.5 on ebay but only 5 inches on other sites.

The wheel will hold a 200 in the same way you could strap a size xxl helmet to a potato. Not a wise idea.

Your non-pm wheels are 5 inches wide and the appropriate-sized tire would be a 170. The PM wheel is 5.5", and the appropriate tire is a 180. A Yamaha R1 runs a 190 stock and has a 6" wheel. I'd say to run a 200 safely and effectively you'd need at least a 6" wheel, and preferably a 6.5". Your an inch to an inch and a half too narrow.

Stick with the 170 and leave the fat tire look (that's all it is) for your cruiser.
