First question, why not getting a good fuelmap for your X1. You will never be able to let it run like a EFI system. |

I don't think he wants a carb - he wants to know if a Forcewinder intake for a carb mount can work on his EFI bike, and if so, what mod's are required. And I have no idea. |

The carb version have a little channel cut in the aluminum to allow the float bowl breather to work and the filter has one hole in it for the crank case breather. The FI version has the channel in the aluminum for the carb's float bowl but it's not machined. It's not relevant since there's nothing there on the intake of a FI bike. The filter has two holes in the rear: One for the crank case vent and the other for the intake air temp sensor. My personal preference: I HATE the crankcase breather setup that comes with the forcewinder. It seems to be deliberately designed to spray babysnot over the right side of your bike on the highway. What I did is to route the breather hose to under the bike and use a carb version filter with one hole. I use that one hole for the temp sensor. The babysnot isn't an issue with the rear tire since it's 95% water and the overall volume is tiny. |

It works fine you just need a different gasket. On the carb model where the elbow mates up with the throttle body there is a special area cast into the mold when it was made and i thought it was for an air jet opening??? I really didn't remember why it is there. But other than that there identical. I have a carb model on my FI X1 right now and it has been on for a long time with no issues. I got mine used from a badwebber. Thanks mike--you know who you are. I also bought a K&n filter that already has the hole in it for the AIT\IAT? sensor. It far cheaper this way.....I spent less $70 for my set up. Get just an elbow if you can and then get the air filter and save some bucks. I did the xb pcv valve upgrade and removed the middle rocker-box section entirely. And i routed the hose to the front of the bike into a catch can. XB mod is about $117.00 or buy a polished kit from al at American Sport Bike http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/A20000.html |

"On the carb model where the elbow mates up with the throttle body there is a special area cast into the mold when it was made and i thought it was for an air jet opening???" That's for the float bowl breather that I mentioned above. There was some issue when they were first released. That little air channel was too small and it was doing strange Bernouli-effect vacuum stuff on the top end due to the air going by fast into the carb FI bikes didn't give a crap about that thing so the effect went unnoticed. I'll try to find the page in the archives.... |
