My 98 M2 was becoming very temper mental about starting and idling correctly and would often emit a nice clunk when leaving a stoplight. She was due for a full service so I dropped her off at my dads shop to get the work done.

Dad pulled open the primary to check the clutch and a nice chunk of metal fell out. The primary chain tensioner was broken and the plastic part was missing meaning the PO reassemble it broken. The clutch was on her way out so that got replaced with a heavy Barnett Clutch.

Dad got her all reassembled, resealed the front rocker box, and gave the carb a good cleaning. Guess what, she wouldn't start. Ran a compression test, 60 psi.

Pulled her apart to find the rings are gone (luckily the pistons and cylinders were still good, just needs a good hone and new rings). The exhaust valves were burned pretty good and were starting to deform.

So now the good news! With the heads off it was time to so some port work. The exhaust ports on non-thunder storm heads looked awful. My head guy promised good low end and mid range power with the work he did. New exhaust valves and new springs will top off the rest of it. She should be back together in the next week and ready to be broken in properly.

It's funny she felt like she was losing power, but I assumed I had just gotten used to her and bored. Come to find out she was never running 100% when I owned her. I can't wait to get her broken in properly and then see what a freshened up tight motor that can breathe properly can really do!
