I was wondering what you did as far are sprockets and belt. Did you keep the factory from sprocket and just use a XB rear sprocket? How did this affect gearing? Did you need to change the belt at all?

If you have a 29t front sprocket or less, you can use the factory belt with the conversion, but you must use the XB 65 tooth rear pulley. It will push your wheel all the way up in the adjusters. I plan on eventually getting a 30 tooth front sprocket and 135t belt from a Uly to gain some wheelbase back and lower cruising RPMs a bit more. The 65 tooth rear pulley is 4-up from the tuber factory 61 tooth, and 10-up from the Euro gearing, so you will have increased acceleration but less top end. If you don't fancy this, like me, you can install the primary chain and crank sprocket from an XB12(R,S,X) for an 11% RPM reduction, which would put the gearing a little deeper than stock overall.

what he said^

got the stock X1 front pulley and belt with the stock rear XB sprocket. improved acceleration with a reduction in top speed (140 vs 130) but getting there is A LOT quicker.

note: your rear belt adjuster will be almost all the way forward. enough to work with... but not alot.

Yeah, I had to push my belt around the teeth while turning the wheel to get it all the way on.

Another question, those with aluminum swing arms, did you use Hals spacers? Did the rear stock caliper bracket need to be modded or did it all bolt on? Are u using an XB disc?

I dunno how Tech did his; he has the aluminum arm. Mine's a steelie, and I did trim trim the caliper bracket, as well as the Hals spacers. I am using the XB disc.

i have the factory front S1 pulley and the xb12 rear...

the gearing is pretty fun, but it tops out at about 110mph with tons of power left (if only there was a 6th gear!)

but for me and what i do with the bike (im not hungry for high speeds, just fun) its perfect. however im going to expirement with changing the front pulley and chain gear to drop rpms on the highway. since i just did a stg3 head upgrade (was very happy with the power before) i think it will be at least just as peppy.

Ricky, you may be happy with the mods that I'm doing, which would allow you to keep your belt as well. A 29t front pulley in place of your 27 will lower cruising RPMs a bit and still fit the same belt, and the XB12 primary gearing will help a lot as well. Between the two, you should be able to increase the top end back to about 140.

Edit- I just realized you were talking about the primary when you said chain gear lol.

Keep looking. They're only $200 new, and can be found cheaper if you look/ask around. I won mine on eBay for $26.

My S2 came with a 29 from the factory if I'm not mistaken. I feel very sure of it but suddenly cannot remember where I got this information.

That's an accurate statement.

All S2's came with the 29 tooth front sprocket. The S1's started with the 27 tooth, but the HDI bikes had the 29 front/55 rear combo.

so... if I use a stock XB 65t rear with a 29t front.... will my stock X1 belt be to short? I am guessing the answer is yes....

if so, what belt do i then need to get?

If you have a 61 tooth rear pulley before, then no it won't be too short. I have the 65t XB pulley and 29t front, with the belt from my old '03 Sportster (same as tubers).

I just finished up some plastic prototype spacers and have my XB rear wheel and 65t rear pulley on. This the adjusters all the way forward, the belt is still tight. I am thinking that by going from my stock front pulley to a larger 29t pulley, my belt will be to short. I have an aluminum swing arm and I believe you have a steel, maybe that makes a difference?

Maybe so. My belt is tight enough that I had to slide it on by hand along the grooves of the rear pulley, but loose enough that I have proper tension (or lack thereof) on the belt for riding. If you don't have enough slack to set the tension correctly, then you need to get the 135 tooth belt from a Uly. That, with a 29 pr 30t front pulley, should put your wheel back near the center of the adjusters.
