I have quick question. It seems that after I ride my 96 S1 for about 30-40 mins I get this loud chatter or click from the rockers. I know this may be a stupid question, does that mean I need to get my values adjusted or is the symptom of any other problems?

Thanks for any feedback!

Faster99:

Unless someone has put solid lifters in your engine it has HYDRAULIC LIFTERS ...

These are alloy engines and tend to be noisy, "BUT" to be on the safe compare it with another SPORTSTER Engine ...

Also is you get it too hot in traffic it will get noisy as well as getting low on oil ...

Here is what happened to my 96 S1 with chatter and clicking from rear cylinder....I found out that my valve seat ( can't remember if it was the intake or exhaust) but when the metal heated up it expanded enough for the seat to come loose and get hammered between the valve and the head casting where the valve seat is pressed into. That is what happened to mine anyways. I found it by pulling off my rear head.....which lead to a Nallin 88" Kit!

Oh, 30 -40 min. is about how long it took for mine to make the noise. No noise when it was cold. That's my .02

SNAKE did that cause engine problems or did it just chatter when warm? im having the same noise on my 01 X1 and cant figure it out. it runs fine till it gets warm then chatters and starts to run like crap

Get a louder exhaust, then no more chatter!

mine does the same, but without the 'runs like crap' part, i chalked it up to heat and a naturally noisey engine.

"Get a louder exhaust, then no more chatter!"

This is what I call a "sound" advice!

I think I may be in the same place Billet, cause I get the noise only at idle and then when I get moving again it going away. Like it is just not getting enough oil during low RPMs, but it still runs like SOB so there are no performance issues that i am aware of.

Or could it be a sign of the oil pump going out??

Skntpig,
I have lots of pics of my toys, this one is my "Beater Bike" that I use as my daily one. See my profile for a pic of my custom I built from a wrecked and repoed S1.
