I NEW ON HERE I GOT A 02 M2 WITH A 1250 KIT ANDREWS N6 CAMS MIKUNI 42 CARB BARNETT CLUTCH JIMS ROLLER ROCKERS ROLLER LIFTERS I HAD RACE ECU BUT IT STOPED WORKING BEFORE THE 1250 AND ECU WENT OUT IT WOULD DO 135MPH+ NO PROBLEM BUT DROP A VALVE ON THE DYNO BUT NOW ITS SEEMS LIKE THE REV LIMITER IS STOPING IT ABOUT 5700 RPM

Ok slow down use some punctuation and take the caps lock off. Now explain again what is going on all I understand is that your bike is not able to get above 5700 rpm

ok its wont let me get 5700 rpms in 5th gear it seems like the rev limiter is kicking in but in in any other gear its dont act up untill about 6700 rpms and when it does act up the tact jumps from 5700 to 6200 rpms

Does it rev to redline when in 2nd or 3rd?
If so, I'd suspect the carberation.

sounds like it is your control module. I would say try getting a new one the only problem with that is I am not sure how easy it is to find any for the 2002 m2s. The 2001 and older use one simular to the one used on sportsters and there is alot of after market options for those.

Yeah, we had a discussion about the 02 having a different type module a few weeks ago, I wonder what Wilson (Brinnutz) found out, I'll see if maybe I can dig that thread up and post a link.

Might be a little bit though as I'm currently sharing this puter with my six year old and it's her turn...

So, you have a stock ECM on this bike since the Race ECM went out? Well, you won't get above 5700RPM because thats the stock rev limit of the stock ECM.

So, is that correct then? You're running the stock ECM?

i thought 6500 was the stock and it get to 6500 in all others gears , what would make ecu go out and would it be worth it to put the crane set up that american sport bike has for ?

I don't think the ECU is able to determine what gear you're in.
I would suggest checking the timing.
Bear in mind that the "crank position sensor" in the points cover also tells
the computer when to squirt so that the spray goes in an open valve.
Mine was set wrong by a tech way back when and it felt like
the front end was full of lead with the bike only getting 35 miles per gallon.

For carbed bikes, the race ignition module only provided more aggressive ignition timing; beginning at 6,200 rpm the stock ignition timing was slighly retarded, around 3 or 4 degrees compared to that of the race modules. American Sport Bike sells the Dyna 2000 modules I think. I use curve #3 with my 1250cc Cyclone.

No, it can't be stock at 6800rpm. That was the reason for me getting a race ecm for the M2 because it raised the rev limit.

I was told when I bought my M2 back in 2000, That the Rev limit was 6,800. That's what I always thought it was? ( No tach) on 00 M2's.

Wilson, it was/is a common misconception. The stock rev limit was also 6,800 rpm. This is well known and well documented via dyno runs and service manual. You did get a more aggressive ignition curve, so you didn't get nothing.

Well, I coulda sworn it was lower, but then again, I haven't run a Stock ECM in years and it's been since September since my bike wasn't in pieces waiting on some parts to be able to put the motor back in.

I could have sworn I was fighting myself buying one because it only changed the rev limit up 300 rpm's...


So, here's another thing...shouldn't the 2002 M2's with the same style ecm as X1's and S3's have a way to get into them via ECM spy I wonder???

Maybe you ended up with a stock Evo big twin module by mistake? Or your tach is off and it's hitting 6200. Not sure why guys are calling the ignitions modules ECMs. M2s are carbureted.

As stated in my initial post here "except S2". So there's no need for you to be sorry. ; )

All 1996 and later tube frame Buells except the S2 came from the factory with a 6,800 rpm hard rev limit.

Ok, reading the 2002 Parts & Accessories Manual.

Part Number 91438-01Y (Doesn't fit 02's, but it's a "Lightning Ignition Module for 01 and later M2's it says).

It states: "Increases rev limits of stock module."

In the KV's dyno testing topic archives you'll find plenty of charts, including mine, of tube framers smacking into the 6,800 rpm rev limit with stock modules. I've owned a tube framed for over eleven years now. I've raced with and without the stock module. The stock rev limit for ALL 1996 and later tube frame Buells, except the S2, is/was 6,800 rpm. Of this I am certain.

the dyno people put way to small of a jet in there the race module is good it was running way to lean getting hot and module was skiping spark to save the engine. seems to be running great for now, time to find a better place to have it dyno tuned ,anyone know of a good place in st paul mn. thank to all the replys

Mm, the first thing I would try is advancing the timing. Every engine has its timing preferrence. Also go over all your electrical connections, including grounds and painted ground contacts. Start there...it's cheap!
