Has anyone experienced this? It seems like after I ride, even up to an hour or more, I hear a faint gurgling sound. It almost sounds like something is boiling, but not that drastic, i mean it's a faint hum, kind of like a propane regulator going off or something. Near as I can tell, it's coming from the shock. I do notice a bit of shiny black oil on the bottom of the shock which I wipe off. Do I have a blown shock seal or something you think? It's a 2000x1 with 7300 miles. | ||

I don't know about the noise but if the shock is leaking then the seal is going bad. | ||

yeah, there is some black, like shiny black oil, not from the engine anywhere, on the shock near the rear, and only noticeable after a week of riding or so. Slow leak? | ||

I had a small amount of black oil on my shock.It turn out to be the fitting for the oil line from the filter.The line wasn't loose it was the fitting into the pump housing. Might be worth a look. Andrew | ||

Low - I get a gurgling noise from the oil draining back in to the oil tank after riding 5min or hours. I have also had a pinched fuel tank vent hose that made a strange noise, like a pump was running but very faint. It took me a while but when I pinched the vent hose on top of the tank the noise stopped. I traced the hose and found where it was pinched and rerouted it. | ||

Low - Check the exterior of the shock (on top) for oil. I thought I had a leaky shock but it turned out to be a bad clean up job from an oil change I did. If you find some oil on top of the shock body it is coming from the engine not the shock. | ||

Hmm, yeah, I'll look at that next time. This oil was SO black though, I can't imagine it came from my engine or primary. That stuff looks like honey. | ||

That's how I noticed mine. I had just finished changing the engine/primary fluid and taken the bike for a joyride when I noticed the fluid and the color gave it away. I even sparyed down the bike and watched to make sure. That hose is a good thing to check if you've got one. | ||

Is that with the engine running? Next time you have the wheel off anyway, loosen the front sprocket cover and move the belt out of the way and turn it by hand... there is a 5th gear drive assembly back there with needle bearings that can rust out or get crunched by an overly tight belt. | ||

engine off. after a ride. Up to an hour after a ride. It not bearings. It s a fluid/gas thing. Im 90% sure its a slow leaking shock. | ||

I would have thought the oil in the shock be low viscosity light colored not dark and heavy as honey. Do you have the "updated" shock, e.g. post recall? I am sure you are aware of the recall on the OEM shock. | ||

I have the updated shock, yes. What I meant was the oil I found on the shock was very very black, and very low viscosity. Almost watery. The oil in my bike is honey colored and thicker, so I don't think it's engine oil or primary oil. | ||

Pop the fuel and oil tank lids while it is doing it and see if it stops. Could be a plugged vent. | ||

When my shock went bad, the oil that came out was reddish like tranny fluid. Most engine oil leaks find their way down there somehow. I have a leaky base gasket for the front jug that pees all over the top of my shock. In the past, I had a leaky pushrod tube and it was getting under there somehow. |
