A Euro-spec version of our headlight is available from John Deere as their P/N RE58638. Still a plastic housing and lens though.

I understand the E-code lens configuration provides a better light pattern. Not HID, but a budget improvement. I've got one ordered and will follow-up once installed. I'll be using an Osram 70/65W bulb also.

The first photo you'll recognize as your headlight. The second is the E-code version.

The one on mine looks like the lower picture, are you saying that is the improved one?

Yeh, the top one is the version on my 2001. I took it for granted as being original. What year is your bike? I wonder what other S3 owners have on their vintage?

My '02 and the bike had 2400 miles on it when I got it, so I would bet it's original

I think you have the pictures reversed my '01 looks exactly like Loren's.

Well, it seems Gowindward, Jramsey and myself have the same light. 5liter, maybe someone previously changed out yours, or are you the original owner?

As I said mine looks like the one in the bottom photo,so does Loren's IMO.

The one in the top photo appears to be an Implement flood type light.

I agree, it does look like an implement floodlight. But, that's what I currently have and it sure looks like Loren's, to me anyways. A European E-code lens is different.

Maybe even a better photo. I'm not the original owner. I'm second owner, but the bike only had 2400 miles on it and was completely stock except for a race kit.

Yup, that's my headlight also. An E-code lens has a different pattern. Supposedly better beam cut-off, projection and dispersal. Technically unapproved and illegal on USA roads where the standard is DOT spec. Here's another picture of an E-code lens.

So what was the cost of the lamp from JD? Is it also a "Speaker" brand lamp?

yeah, it is a speaker too. You can find it on their website. I once bought a couple of them from Speaker directly, they were like 60$ ea. The lighting is definitely better... What are the chances that someone would find out they are not DOT approved???

My local JD dealer quoted me approximately $55. JW Speaker told me they had an arrangement with Buell and would not sell direct to me, I had to go to Buell dealer to purchase. Buell only offers the original type headlight though, not the Euro-spec version.
