Is an X1 engine and a S1,S2 engine interchangeable, that is to say can one remove the prettier engine from an S model and simply bolt in the X1 model for the added power they provide? or are there changes to be made on mounts or ...?

Fuel and ignition aside.

you would have to swap heads pistons and cams from the x1 to keep the HP

"98" thunderstorm motors(carb) clamed 101 crank hp ? The 99 & latter EFI X1's also clame 101 crank ponies ? I have heard many an EFI X1 being converted to a carb, but I have never heard of a carbed thunderstorm motor converted over to EFI. All mount points on the XL based bottom ends should be the same/interchangable.

Simple answer. Yes. The X1 engine will bolt right into the S1/S2 frame.

all the motors are dimensionally the same, as well as they way they bolt to the bike.

you say prettier s model motor? in what way, i guess you dont like your black x1 motor?

i believe the only difference you would run into is the cam differemce betwen years and models, also head type, thunderstorm or non thunderstorm. if you want to keep the x1 injection and swap a different motor into it, i would make sure you put the x1 cam and thunderstorms on or the injection system will need a tune.

short answer......buy a big bore kit in whatever color you want! then while they are boring your cases have it made whatever color you want!

Engine bolt-in dimension was my question.
The X1 engine can be carbureted and ignited by other means, I know, but I'm having trouble bolting my X1 engine into an aplication for a earlier model engine, the damn thing just wont fit!

Matt, it's a one piece center spine affair from Redneck, the second so far, personally built by Vince the owner,(the first frame didn't fit because the front mount didn't match, to narrow at the head mount)and fitted onto a 96 engine...no they don't have a 99 engine to fit it to, that was my first question.

Since the front mount is fixed on the spine, and the rear mount plate is also, there is no room for alignment error, it fits or it dosen't.

I would love to sue for my $ but I have to hire a lawyer in So. Carolina and travel to and from for the duration of the proceedings. It's a ICC thing, wish I woulda' known before, now I gotta make the best of it and fit this bugger!

The rest of this "kit" is very good quality material and a sweet design. I've had it all togeather...except the engine of course, and it WILL be beautiful when done. My target date is Daytona 2010(fingers crossed).
