I was at a stop light the other day and was just kinda staring around when I noticed something on my S1W. When I got home I took a closer look. It is a tube or some machined metal welded on there, it does appear to be stock. It has a cover on the end...like if you drilled a hole in a dime and ran a screw through it as a pivot point. I moved the cover out of the way to reveal a small keyhole for a "normal" key, not a barrel key. I don't have a pictures atm and I probably didn't explain it very well but...does anyone have a clue in hell what I'm talking about? I went to a local dealership but they didn't know what it was and couldn't find a key part number other than the barrel key for the ignition.

Found a pic of a bike online that appears to have the same thing. If you look just to the right of the second black line on the fork you can see something silver, thats the cover.

Any ideas if it IS a fork lock or how I can get a key for it? The guy at Harley searched by my VIN for keys and the only thing that came up was the barrel key for the ignition.

It's a fork lock. To be honest, I've never understood how to use it, because on my bike (Which also came with only barrel keys), the fork blocks the lock when it's in the "locked" position!

I'm pretty sure it's functional, but I'm not sure how to use it. Maybe it's just there for looks...

It's a fork lock. For some reason, you lock an S1W with the forks "opposite" from normal - I don't understand myself, but I do own one and I can pretty much guarantee it.

Key code should be on file with your VIN number. Different than your ignition barrel, but re-orderable. It looks like a suitcase key.

A guy at the Harley shop told me the only key on file was the barrel key when he searched under my VIN. I guess I need to go back and talk to someone else or go to another shop.

Hm. Mine has a code tag on it, I guess I assumed that would be on file as well. It's a different number than my barrel key, though - and they both work.

Perhaps you *do* need to purchase a new lock cylinder, which would include a key.

I use a rotor lock with the "hey " orange coily cord to the handgrip, so I really haven't given the fork lock much thought, other than "why the hell did they put it on the wrong side?". LOL.

They put it on the left side so that you can see it (and unlock it) before you throw a leg over the seat.
