Well I'm still looking for a buell. I thought I was going to get a cyclone, but the guy seems to have disappeared.

Is that an aftermarket oil cooler on the left side?

Moose, nice looking bike, that is an oil cooler and a Banke frame brace--no longer available--Forcewinder air cleaner, not sure about muffler.

Thanks Fireman. All the engine work concerns me, but he says it was done at 12,500, so it should be well sorted out by now.

That oil cooler does look cool but I don't like where he chose to put it.

Looks like ankle pain to me.

I wouldn't out much stock into the "first non-white S1W" as there's not any way to verify that that I know of, and it doesn't really make the bike special, anyways.

I'd also ask for dyno sheets, receipts, etc, to prove motorwork.

Other than that it looks friggin' badass! Errr, Maybe that's because it looks just like mine!

If you want to know how many S1W's were built in that frame/body color combo, PM me.

Hey John how many S1W's did you hear were made? My brother has an S1W in those colors, Mine is also those colors but is not an S1W. Take care, Chuck.

Is there something in your vin that denotes that it is a S1W?

I don't think the guy was saying it was the first one off the assembly line.

No chopping going on here. I'm just looking for something cool to ride 2 days a week that gets better gas mileage than my blown 06 mustang gt.

John, post some pics of yours!

I will check the spread sheet tomorrow at school. I don't have excel on my home computer : (

And it's not hearsay. It will come directly from Buell archival info.

I will, but it looks just like that 'un. : )

<-One of the VERY few public appearances of my bike.

Someone on here told me I know nothing of Buell's because I rode a Blast (Reading my profile). Ignorance is bliss!!!!

And yes, the Mastercard logo at the bottom of the photo is mine, too. I highly recommend the Conti RoadAttacks. They put up with burnouts really well!

According to this, mine is an S1W but my body work doesn't say S1W. It did have the manta tank originally though. Also, mine is a '98. Should it have said something about S1W on the body work?

I recognize that exhaust, there was a guy making them back around 99-01 or so. As I recall, it was offered on this board & ATC, brand new for $100. I can't remember the name though...

Colored bodywork will NOT say S1 White Lightning, it just says S1. I'm betting yours has a 2.5 inch header, unpainted stainless muffler (If OE), and black heads...

And GranCuda, if that is your original body color and frame, I think it's pretty rare.

There was a Silver S1W (I don't remember the frame color) of which there was only one made.

And apologies to all, I forgot to get that build chart...

2,210 S1W's made.

Like mine, Molten Orange with a Blue frame, there are 246. With a little more time, I can tell you what countries they all went to, too.

"IF" Grancuda's is legitimately Billet Metallic on a Titanium (color) frame, it's one of 48 made.

If you see an original Molten Orange S1W, with a Titanium (color) frame, snatch it up, it's the only one.

Molten Orange S1W's (Undefined frame colors):
170 USA
17 England
22 Canada
12 California
84 HDI (Not really sure what that means)

Billet Metallic is the rarest Non-COV S1W Body color, with only either 153, or 154 produced, depending on your source of info. Titanium is the rarest S1W frame color @ 98 built.

I;'m finding some minor discrepancies in Buell's own published numbers, but these seem pretty close. Give me your OE color combos, and I'll give you some numbers!

So are the only differences in the S1 & S1W for '98 the Heads/Exhaust/Gas Tank(Manta style) or are the forks different also?

I bought the bike with the heads having the Nallin Racing work but they are T-Storm heads and the bike had a pro series full exhaust system so the motor stuff was gone. It did have the Manta Style tank still on it which I really didn't care for and figured someone put on it. I swapped it to the standard tank so I could run some lower bars without tank interference, I do still have the factory bars too which I read somewhere they were narrower than a standard S1, not sure if that is correct. As far as the VIN though, it matches the S1W designation outlined above so I would guess it is a factory bike but someone along the line could have swapped the body work and put the silver on, not sure if there is something to prove the color. Maybe I should figure out a way to run the bars I like with the Manta tank and then it will look more like a S1W and keep it more stock since it is kind of a rare setup.

Here are pics from when I bought it.

I'd bet my last dollar that the exhaust system on the Ebay bike isn't a Kooks.

I had the very first prototype Kooks on my S1W, and it had a stepped header. Also i beleive the collectors were equal length.
I gotta dig out the pics...

Anyway, i think the ebay bike's system is nothing more than the stock header with a cobbled up muffler, possibly a cheery bomb.

Cool bike though...reminds me of Andy's.

GC, I believe the forks are different as well. Ditto the cams, although yours are probably swapped.

Tough call on the bodywork, it's easy enough to swap paint sets, but the fact that it's an S1W, and has an S1W tank is good probability for legit bodywork.

The BEST way to know? Call your local dealer! They can run the VIN, and tell you the selling dealer, the OE color, outstanding recalls, etc...

Welcome to the wonderful world of authentication!

Spidey...
And the trick is that the Kooks muffler really was a cherry bomb muffler(or Dynomax..i can't remember) that they had lying around the shop.

When Gerogie Kook Jr bought his buell, he started playing with tubing and leftover parts in the shop, and came up with a product, that for a while, was pretty damn impressive on tubers.

So i still say it's not a Kooks muffler..; )

I'm sorry, but at this time, I have only S1W info, and nothing on rim combos. I am hoping I can wrangle up this info shortly.
