i have a 96 s1 and would to uprade the carb to the mikuni 42mm slide carb and a forcewinder air cleaner, would this be a good idea? if so what should i be actually be needing? will the force winder fit directly on my carb, and will the carb jus bolt on to the engine? any thoughts would be greatly aprreciated. thanx to all.

from my experience, the force is great because it throws the intake away from the knees pretty good and give you good airflow. the mikuni came with this bike but i just had a yost power tube on the other. i think i had better throttle response with the stock and yost personally. if the mikuni wasn't already on there, i wouldn't have gotten it. even a buddy of mine who put a mikuni on his classic flh said he wish he never changed his over. if you can find a good carb guy, i'd say stay stock but do change out to the forecewinder.

Personally and IMHO "i" TUNE for where "i" ride(RPM Range)...

The OEM Carb. "PRODUCTED IMPROVED" does the job ...

The OEM Air Box "PRODUCT IMPROVED" with the ECONO. FORCE(OEM snorkle with the holes filled and a K&N filter) also does the job ...

IMHO, if you cannot tune what you got to the MAX., throwing money at it(BIG $$$.$$ parts) will just make it look better ...
Looks can be deceiving ...

ive had both mikuni and cv on several bikes, buells and harleys...its the craze to swap for the mikuni and the throttle response is good..but my opinion is that a properly set up cv is just as good... the cv will adjust to altitude and the mikuni wont.. i just finished tweeking my cv, forcewinder setup and it would be hard to improve on..btw, it replaces the stock efi setup and a considerable improvement in seat of pants performance...
one member said that seat of the pants perfromance went out with the biplanes..well, tubers are the biplanes of the buell line up..this is all my opinion naturally..the mikuni owners will probably disagree..

Hey Dave dosen't the Mikuni have an adjustment for altitude(air/fuel mix), not applicable in flat states.
I would think it's hard to tell performance capabilities at 35-45mph...c'mon 50 you can tell us!

ok, ok, i did ease up there one time... but in the words of clint eastwood,"a mans got to know his limitations"!
when you move from south florida to north florida you dont have to rejet a cv...
