My S1W has it on the side, just behind the battery, and my S2 has it on the backside (rear wheel side) of the battery/frame bulkhead under the seat. Both OEM positions.

I've had mine under the tail for 5000k's now and no problems at all : )Just make sure you run an earth cable to the battery.
Cheers

FWIW, The 1125R now uses heat sink compound between regulator and mounting points, probably a worthwhile addition to extend regulator life and margin....

Whatever you hook it too, make sure it is a good thermal path to a big heat sink.

I relocated mine to the location of the MIA ECM. Since this picture I have cut down the upper corners of the bracket.

How are you guys connecting and extending the wires from the regulator?

Anything like that, I find the same gauge wire and some heat shrink. I have a nifty-difty home-made alligator clip holder (2 alligator clips and a C-shaped section of old coat hangar) that lets me inline-solder connections. I solder, heat shrink, and go. If you don't want to cut n splice, you can also get the 2 connectors from your dealer and build a jumper extension lead...

Don't need to make the wires longer, you will need to make them shorter.

joe, i mounted mine below the screw holes the opposite from yours...it brings the bottom of the regulator within a quarter inch from the plastic at one spot...how hot do these things get? i might have to flip mine over and go up with it like you did.. ill post a pic when i finalize my location..

I'll shoot the temperature after the ride home this am but it will likely be in the 50 degree range out.

That worked out pretty good. After my 40+ mile ride home yesterday mainly on rural road, charing at 14.1 to 14.2 volts my temperature detector indicated 98.06 degrees F. Felt cooler than my touch but not by much. Do you have hard bags? Thanks for the pictures.
