Anybody have a leaky X1 gas cap like me? It's as if the cap rattles when installed so the O-ring doesn't seal. What's the fix?

Pkes,

Tighten the nut on the underside of the gas cap-that will provide a better seal but it will make the cap more difficult to remove (at least in my case)

Did that, still loose.

Are you sure that the plastic locking portion is turning? Can you pull the cap back off? My locknut bottoms out on the shaft and I can still operate the cap. When I set mine in the tank it barely moves before I turn and lock it.

A couple of weeks ago somehow my keylock had turned and I stripped the hole in the plastic clamp. I had to removed the whole assembly to take it apart and then epoxy the clamp back on the cap shaft. I'm glad that happened while I was home instead of on the road.

It functions (opens and closes) just fine. It's just loose as he11 in there.

First try tightening the locknut but it wouldn't hurt to replace the o-ring. I was thinking of doing that since mine sits outside every day at work.
I suspected bad gas when I was troubleshooting my injector problem.

Not knocking ya...

BUT, the X1 caps(maybe other models as well), the plastic backing seems to... stop working...

When out of the tank, operates like normal, but, in the tank, turn the "knob", the backing stops turning, BUT, the knob will still turn, being partially stripped...

Mine was like that for a while, till it rfinally jammed in the "secured" position, forcing me to remove the whole area from my fuel cell...

New cap is 50 bucks...

if you have to, remove the assembly, and cap surround from the tank, and adjust it on the bench till you are satisfied...

A little epoxy is cheaper than $50 and you don't need to match the key.

Those gascap locks don't have any tumblers in them.
You don't need to match them to the keys.
